Feroza front driveshaft movement?

Is it normal for the driveshafts (from the front diff to each wheel hub) to have some freeplay/ movement length ways?

Mine move a couple of milimetres in/ out of the wheel hub - I think it's the mysterious noise I can hear over rough roads but have never been able to isolate?

mine move in and out a little too, after looking at how they come out etc (circlips). i decided that the movement is normal.

i have a kocking noise at times on rough road, found the upper shock mounts where loose.

Thanks for the reply. I investigated the manual after posting the question and discovered the same thing - circlips hold them in place so there has to be some movement.

Mine make an audble noise when moved by hand, so I can imagine how loud they would be when the suspension is moving up/ down and the shaft length is changing! I'll double check the shocks just to be sure, but have visually checked them before.

The movement you are discribing in the shafts is normal and part of the design of the shaft.

A bit late, butt new 4 me.
Sum movement is normal and part of the design of the shaft, cool.
I seem to get about 8-10 mm of movement making a lot of noise

maybe that explains the mysterious rattle coming from the front right when the hubs are engaged on mine ... ive gone nuts trying to track down what it is ... checked/stripped/cleaned the hubs and wheels bearings, checked the suspension/cv's etc even stripped and replaced the front brake pads thinking it was them.. never have got rid of the noise

Its actually an expanding spring clip on the inboard and circlip on the outboard. There's no easy way of shimming the inside so some movement has to be tolerated. Actually the clearances on the outboard end are pretty generous as well ....... and could be shimmed if you really want but .......

Meece, mine rattled and drove me nuts, til I discovered the prior genius had taken the small anti rattle clips and shims out of the front disk caliper brackets.

Of course being a Feroza its probably a vibration frrm the tail light causing the headlamps to clunk in sympathy.....

Mine always did it- hubs locked or unlocked. On rough tracks it was really noticeable, but nothing ever "let go" before I sold it.

On road it could be heard over decent bumps.

I cant find my pictures but anyway you can understand i hope from the manual that you must fill in the pipe where the driver shafts are inside with grease a lot of grease and you want have any sounds again. After about 6 months it doesn't make any sound but only in rock crawling moments.
