When did the Auto transmission become available, and on which motors?

in the lwb wagons with the P40 motor

My freind has a 1980 MQ wagon with an L28 and factory auto

My 1986 Nissan was a factory auto with the L28 engine.

what are the auto's like?? strong will they break a lot??
also how big are they compared to the manual??

gear reduction wise to?? anygood.

was thinking about going auto in mine.

I found that my Nissan was under powered and over geared in low gear, the gear box was the same as the auto in the Nissan cars 180b and 200b, I considered a turbo but the supplier would not fit one with the factory auto as he thought they were to weak.
You can see what I did instead at the time although I am now rebuilding it again now.

I thought the L28 and auto in the wagon were just to light for the job or I could be just a revhead.

The autos were only ever in the wagons and were in the P40 motors and the L28 motors and im pretty sure only in dovorsed transfercase as well. they never came in the diesels.
They arent a bad auto really......
Your weakest link will always be in your diffs until u upgrade them... then u look at unis and drive shafts... so your auto is pretty safe

no not any lower reduction. higher if anything.
