Over the past few months I have noticed that the draglink from the steering box has been getting closer to the rear u bolt on my front spring.

New springs were fitted about 12 months ago with an adjustable tourqe rod at the same time, but on the way to work this morning wy steering locked up when i turned to the left.

are my springs shagged?? can i move the ball on the wheel end of the draglink to the top??

It frees up if you give the wheel a fgood tug but I dont want it to happen at highway speeds.

if it takes a good tug to free it up look at your king pin bearings as my one where calapsed and i could go full lock one way but not the other.

if it is just a clunk you may need to put the flat U bolts in on that side as the adjustable draglink (if you have the adjustable one) hits the U bolt with the clamp on the adjustable draglink .

surely will look at those immediately! I have had to tighten the nuts a few times in the past. It is just about due foe a swivel hub overhaul anyway, both felts are gooonne and they leave a nice grease/ oil mix over the inner guarsd and tyres.

No it dosent have adjustable draglink, the only ones i can find are dropped but i dont have any spring lift.

another thing to check is the leaf pack bolt hasn`t broken or the hole were it locates on the perch is worn to one side

If there's oil leaking out of the back of the swivel housings it means the inner axle seals are leaking this is usualy a sign that the swivel bearings are shot and the axel is'nt central because of excess play, that causes them to hammer the seals.Grab the top of the tyre and shake it in and out to see if you can feel a clunk. If you can its either wheel or swivel bearings or possibly both but the symptoms you describe point towards the swivel pin bearings.
What nuts have you been tighening?

yep, big clunk when you try to push or pull the top & bottom of the tyre.

I have been tightening the 4 bolts on top and bottom of the swivel hubs, I dont think they were shimed correctly after I changed the diff. She steers like a wheelbarrow with a flat tyre, following the joins in the pavement.

brother in law's lux had that problem.. he couldnt turn in one direction. Draglink was hittin the U bolts.

Jacked up the diff... and moved the tyre up and down - click click.. the trunion bearing shat itself.

replaced em.. was good after that.

HEY BUD CHECK YOUR SWIVELHUBS OUT FIRST FOR TIGHTNESS AND COND. 2ND - CHECK ALL YOUR U - BOLTS ARE TIGHT GUESSING YOU ALREADY HAVE A FLAT U - BOLT ON THE BACK . IF STILL TOUCHES U MAY HAVE SOMEWHERE HAD AN EXTRA LEAF FITTED TO THE PACK CAUSING IT TO SIT UP HIGHER. IF SO U NEED TO HAVE THE BALL REMOVED FROM THE J - ARM AND REPLACED INTO THE TOP INSTEAD. YOU WILL THEN NEED TO RUN A DROPPED DRAG LINK SO THE LINK ON THE J-ARM CAN BE SPUN UPSIDE DOWN. I CAN RECO THE J-ARM IF REQUIRED BUT I`M IN PENRITH N.S.W. lukes4x4@optusnet.com.au. CHEERS.....
