If one is cruising at say 90 K/h and a tank runs dry, will the engine 'pick up' and operate normally upon selecting a tank with fuel in it? Thanks.

I have had Toyota diesels for 15yrs (2h & 1HZzz). If you run them dry but are quick enough to push the change over switch they will keep going. Normally as soon as I feel it hesitate I push the button and it picks up. However, running it dry is not recommended as the pump is receiving no lubrication at that time.

I'vedone it in my 75 troopie and yeah it cut out and i switched tanks and it re-started straight away as long as you don't try to start it again before you switch tanks cause that will suck what fuel is left in your lines out then you'll have to bleed it but i wouldn't do it Toyota owners manuals actually recommend you don't let your tank get below 1/4 because the can get sediment in the bottom of the tank which will get sucked out when the tank is low

switch tanks asap and hold your foot flat to the floor while still in gear 9 out of 10 times it will keep goin other wise 4 some reason my rig self bleeds by turnin the key with fooot flat to floor about 30 secs of cold cranckin it fires up.
it worked fine for over a year but speak to a desiel mach about the damage it may cause

Sometimes it'll keep going other times not, just depends on how quickly you swap em over. I've only had to start and re prime the system once - and it happened about 30 secs after overtaking a 3 trailer road train
