Noise coming from the back

Hi all

can anyobdy tell me how to distinguish if the noise coming from the back is a stuffed wheel bearing or a stuffed diff? Because after talking to my mechanic he thinks it may the diff and not a wheel bearing like i thought....

Ok you will usually hear a stuffed wheelbearing all the time and it will usually make basicly the same noise at any speed but i stuffed diff will howl at different rates all the time and most of the time when you back of the throttle it will get real quiet or real loud.

and a wheel bearing will change pitch if you corner hard.

Thanks ruff....it must be the wheel bearing then because it is the same noise all the time.

you have to pull the axles to pull the centre out anyway so just pull the axles and if the wheel bearings are shot you dont need to go any further

Dont forget to replace the seals , put athin layer of silastic on the seating surface before your push them in .
