Where is the extra width in a widetrack?

Wanted to know - with many wider tracked vehicles there is additional offset within the stub axle assemblies themselves - such as within the disc assembly itself.
Where exactly is the difference in width in the Narrowtrack versus widetrack - is it in the fact that the 1.3 has different front brakes or are the axles and the diffhousing itself actually longer by x amount and exactly how much wide are they both?

The suspension mounting points are different as well.
On the narrow track the shackle end of the springs are mounted directly under the chassis, where the widetrack are mounted on the outside of the rails - still underneath, but an increase of about 50mm each side in width for the mounting points.
This might be the amount of extra width the diffs have, but I am not sure.

From mesurements at a wreckers........(so be warned, I could be wrong...)
Difference in width between 'narrow track' and 'wide track' is 50mm from rim mounting face, to rim mounting face. The difference appears to be in the axles and housing (don't know if it is an even split/addition, ie don't know if the 'pumpkin' moves slightly or not.......understand?)
'Narrow track' diffs are not all the same. Width wise they are the same, but the centres and spline count are different between 1 litre and 1.3L.
Note: whilst I haven't personally done it (yet, been busy with little time for projects), I'm led to believe that LJ80 4.4 centres will go into the 1L diffs, replacing the front drum brakes with the 1.3L discs..............maybe Sam or somebody with experience in this field can tell me if I'm dreaming or not.....
Trust that will assist as a guide.........get ya tape measure, and go to a wreckers.

Axles are 50mm wider. LJ80 wont fit as it has the pumpking in the centre where as the others have it offset.

Thanks Guys...
Much appreciated.
Guess that means that the widetrack is gonna be Narrower by about 2 inches than the Vitara... Making it still posssible but probably all in all not the best choice as far as diffs go.
