not sure if it has been covered before but anyway to tighten up the swivel housing do you add or remove shims as i am not sure cant find it in my manual.need to no as i am getting massive wobble in the steering when hitting small bump that just gets worse unless you steer quite sharply to stop it and the hubs seem quite lose.
I am also doing the bushes in the panhard as they are pretty stuffed hopefully this will fix as its bloody dangerous at the moment.
Thanx in advance.

Just do the panhard first and see how you go ;) It will cause the wobbles

Just removing shims ain't the right way to do swivel housings

To much typing to explain, see how the panhard rod goes, best to buy a decent manual to to the swivels

not likely to be the swivels - but you can check them easily by jacking up the wheel and with assistance look for any lateral movement in the swivel/housing area whilst moving the top of the wheel in an out. Some bearing axles movement may also be detected.

Setting up the swivel pre-load can be as easy as adding or removing the same amount of shim material from top and bottom, or as hard as trying to detemrine the center of the hub in relation to the axle tube so the CV and axles run true to centre. It all depends on whether the swivel bearings are rooted and need replacing, in which case you may need to start from scratch to set up properly. But you would be unlucky to have this happen.

there is a bit of movement there and as it cops quite a floggin offroad most of the time and i have the kids with me most of the time i think i might have a go at adjusting them anyway just to be on the safe side.
:D
Thanx for your input reddo

with the swivels - be very carefull to note the shims that are in there when you dismantle the top and the bottom assesmblies - and keep them seperate. Even measure them with a micrometer and record if you can before reassembly. As said, make sure what you do to the top you do to the bottom. That way the hub etc should remain central. If you stuff it up - you'll need to frig around to ascertain the centre line again - or phone a friend with the necessary locating tool:)
