Hey,
Going to be running a Ipaq 3870 pda with mouse gps reciever.
I will have Tomtom for the steets and major dirt roads that i have found marked on there.
I want to use ozi for 4x4ing mapping and wondering how much space do i need for maps. either manually scanned in and added or bought hema maps or similar? i was thinking of getting a 2 or 4gb sd card for it.

Just looking at my iPAQ now with a few of the Hema maps on it and there around 3 - 10 MB each. I suppose it all depends on how you scan the maps, and how many you want to keep on the SD card. I get away with a 1gb card with room for TomTom, Ozi + 10 maps or so, and 30 or more MP3's.

I have an Ipaq 3850, where do you get the GPS for them? And how much are they?

Crushu:
I have one of these coming $60 not inc freight.

This enables me to use the unit as a gps with a mouse style reciever. i have bought that already from ebay for about 70 bux.
u can also get a CF or SD or bluetooth style one from ebay and the like also. u will need the cf expansion pack if u dont already have it for a cf model and the expansion pack will not fit in the holder above afaik so far i have been told.
Will know next tues when it arrives.
Ask away any questions. i am setting mine up properly with tomtom and ozice next couple weeks. maps for ozi i will have to work on.
for the hema maps, any idea on what coverage is approx per map in sq km or similar?

I've just gone down this route myself. I'd say look at least a 2GB as you will end up adding stuff along the way plus they're pretty cheap now really. I've got a 1GB with it but I'm actually looking at at 4GB given some of the stuff I'm putting on it and then I'll still have plenty of spare room. I'm even putting the FSM on there too.

howdy, i had one of these the old model before some prick smashed a window and took it. But up until then it moved back and forward between my patrol running OZI 1gig card with all of vic topo maps at 1:25000 and for the lancer it ran tomtom from the same card.
Was a good unit before someone decided they needed it more than me.
but it being stolen made way for my FX324

I have vic and nsw maps that have been compressed for Ozi ce use, vic is 734mb and nsw is 1.2 gig so i would get the biggest card your pda will accept - warning thought that most ipaqs cant use the 4gig sdhc sd cards so make sure its a standard sd card.
