Hi,
May sound silly but was wondering if it was possible to change from tailgate setup to barn doors ? Im thinking that Toyota in their wisdom would make them interchangable :)....
If so..is it just bolt on?
94 80 series.
Thanks :)

just to clarify, the entire door sill and hinge mounting is different, and the only way to do the swap would be to have a complete, straight DX/Standard rear end to cut and weld on. It would be a pretty big job and it would be arguably easier to buy a DX and swap all the GXL gear onto it.

cheers

Barn doors are easier for getting stuff in and out of as you don't have to reach/climb over the tail gate. But the drop down tail gate makes for a perfect table for making kids lunches on when out 4x4ing :D

I myself prefer the drop down tail gate as I find the "table" it makes handy

But making a table that folds down when the door is open is easy anyway. Attach it to the RH door with a hinge at the bottom and fold it up when you close the door.

Does the same apply to the 100 series? Are the door styles not swappable?

Cant be done easily.....gates are good to shelter under in the rain but a pain on a lifted 80...doors are good for grannies, gates are good for change tables...each to their own....
Gates bend, doors squeek

i think all barn doors/lift up doors are incompatible. we got a quote on a work mercedes van which had lift up doors to change over to barn doors (so could load things from/to forklift), was over $10k. guy said just sell it and buy another
