LN106 engine swap

Im tossing up doing a swap on my Hilux.
Options would be either a 1KZ (who has done one?)
or the venerable V6 Holden and use the auto also as it has better ratios in overdrive and put it on gas. Thought about the Lexus V8 but it seems like a bit of a hassle.
I know the V6 has been done a million times, but what other source of parts etc is there besides Marks and Dellow?
Ditto for the 1KZ, but if poss it would be the engine manual box and transfercase in one.
Dualcab is a daily driver, doesnt get used in mud, only road and beach for surfing and fishing etc.

Anyone got any suggestions?

The V6 is no easier then a lexus to put in and 99% of these done have over heating problems.

I was thinking more of the engines themselves, the Toyota V8s come in various configorations, not all of them common in aus, nor the parts for the conversion of the shelf (correct me if I am wrong please!)

Not sure where the overheating problem comes from, as they (3.8 V6) have long since proven to be a reliable and relatively simple engine in the Commodore. Marks 4WD say the standard diesel radiator is sufficient, is this not the case? Do the autos (4L60-E and turbo 700) handle the job in a 4WD?

I have followed the thread on 4WD Monthly's forum for Twisty, and though he has put together a great rig, it seems to have been a long, drawnout and potentially frustrating road to follow. (and costly?)

I'd like to just have everything ready to go, rip it out and have it going in a couple of weeks again. Can anyone suggest where can I get simple info regarding 1KZ and Toyota V8 swaps?

the V6's would use way to much fuel.
rather get a late model turbo diesel
plenty of grunt and wont b hard to find

The only part that is not off the shelf for the v8 swap is engine mounts, nobody makes these.
Castlemain and Dellow both make the bell housings etc. Marks don`t ATM but I have spoken to Mark a couple of times now and they have plans on doing them aswell, just don`t know when.

Start doing long slow work with the V6 and they get hot.

Unless you`ve done the engine swap that you end up doing once before it`ll take longer then a couiple of weeks. There are other conversions to the toyota V8 other then twisty`s.

Oh and on fuel usage, my Toyota V8 uses 15lt per 100ks when sitting on 115kms/hr running 33`s with 4.88 diff gears.

The 1kz is a major change which includes moving engine mounts on chassis, hooking up and wiring of the ecu which you need to do anyway with the comodore motor, plus there are changes to the front drive shaft for the 1 kz. My mate has done the motor and everthing but is still having troubles with the front shaft and vibrations. Go the commodre motor, more grunt, auto, parts are cheap and available anywhere. Best option I think. Arb were doing this mod back in the late 80's early ninety's and is still popular today. Another good thing with the V6motor is check out where the alternator is, right at the top where they all should be. Just my opinion. Regards Steve M

Guts-Ive looked on the CRD and dellow websites and can only find the bellhousings for the V8 swap? Where can I find wiring adaptors, etc for these, and what are the transmission options? There doeswnt seem to be any transmission to transfer adapters?
Also not sure what you mean by "There are other conversions to the toyota V8 other then twisty`s. "
How do these engines go on gas?

Millers1-what changes to the front shaft? extension/shorten?
What trans/transfer did he use?

Marks DON`T do anything for the 1uz at the moment.
As for wiring harness, its not hard and wring harness for any sort of motor is only another way of people getting bucket loads of cash off you for nothing
To bolt a 1uz auto up to a hilux tcase you need.
surf auto
lexus auto
chain driven hilux tcase or a marlin adaptor to go to gear driven case.
with then parts you can make it all bolt together and it will be a fine setup for an every day driver come normal 4x4ing.

Twisty isn`t the only person to have dropped a 1uz into either a 4 runner or a hilux, if you look around there are lots of us now. BJonroids was first to do it (into a 40 series) then I started doing mine to which twisty started after me but finished before me, then I think nem then boof.

Have you considered 308 holden, 302 windsor or 350 chev on gas (if you live in Qld you can't put motor in bigger than 5lt)? These are all super cheap to rebuild and will go forever on gas, unlike the v6 commodore.
It would be good to see someone put a ls1 350 commodore motor in a lux too.

ute is a 95, all of those I think wont have suitable emmission gear, and probably a bit heavy for what I am after anyway?

Dont quote me but I'll think you will find there is bugger all weight difference between a 308 and a toyo diesel

You can run any age engine on straight gas no emission worries (and save heaps by not having cats, EFI looms etc).
The ls1 chev mentioned is from late model commodore/ suburban has all emissions and has alloy block- is about same weight as v6 commodore. They are cheap too.

I would imagine that in order to eliminate all the emission gear, you would have to eliminate all petrol equipment?
isnt the LS1 designated 5.7 rather than 350? I know they are the equivalent displacement, but that is why I would assume that you were referring to the old motor.
