Vitara Diff question

Hi bit of a zook newb, recently picked up a '96 JXL Vit with 31" Simex ET's and am just curious about the diffs in it and what my options would be. Before you flame me i did check the bible and did a search but couldnt find much...

Now on the highway i'm getting about 90 - 100 top speed (5th seems a bit useless so mostly drive in 4th) does this seem about right for stock diffs with this tyre size?

Trying to work out if these are stock diffs, what my options would be for stronger diffs (will be looking at lockers for rear at least in the near future) or what i can do to get some highway speed back.

So if anyone has any info that might be useful please let me know and also any rough prices would be good too. Would rather get it driving right first with decent ratios before i think about dropping money into lockers and probably transfer gears. :oops:

Sounds more like you've got some issues related to lack of power? Also don't forget that with 31's your speedo will be reading around 10 - 15km/h LOW at those speeds.

My Vit (a 91 JLX wagon) would sit on 120 indicated all day with 235/75 15's (about 29"), and top out at 130+. A set of extractors and 2" exhaust will make a noticable difference.

Depending on what sort of wheeling you're doing, then maybe look at transfer gears.

it has extractors, zorst and aftermarket filter and snorkle.

option for stronger diff: for the front is a steel diff from xl-7. you would have alloy right now. for the rear, calmini sell heavy duty rear axles, but you need the older model axle setup for that. (4 bolts one) you got the newer one.
I don't have any power problems unless i am towing my boat, maybe run some injector cleaner.

you can also get 5.83 ratios from calmini, you have 5.125 at the moment.
or drop down a tyre size, go to 30's.
