Hi guys i have a mate who has a RB30DET engine in a vl, he's spent a lot of money on this engine, 490HP worth, and wants to get off the tar and on the dirt and utilize this power. As i've read, the patrols came out with the RB30, what mounts will he need? Do you have to make an adapter for it, or are they available? What else should he Know?
Thanks Shane.

So the deal would be to buy a patrol with the rb30, remove the engine, bolt his in, get a 4.2 box(auto or man?) and an adapter. Will that then bolt to the rb30's original transfer?
i think that makes sense.

I would suggest he buys a Patrol that had an RB30 fitted, if he can find one.
Should be a good conversion, except that low-down torque is required and the Patrol drivetrain is very heavy - lower transfer case gears would help heaps.
Also note that a fourby works at low speed with little airflow for a turbo/intercooler - engine temps in an already overpowered motor might be a problem.

HUH!!!!already overpowered motor might be a problem
Only joking. Yes heat might be high, but still a lot of other turbos out there being used successfully. And yes gearing will have to be used, turbo wont make power without RPM.
