flex?

Ive been reading on this forum and alot of people talk about "nice flex" when refering to suspension and all can someone please explain to me what "Flex" is meant to mean exactly

basically wheel travel, so the more wheel travel the more opportunity to keep the tyres on the ground and keep your grip etc. Wheel travel being the amount of movement where the tyre can go as high as possible into the guard so compressed fully, to full droop where the wheel is hanging as far down as it can. This is limited by shock length, arms connecting the diff to the body, bump stops etc. Hpe that helps?

A more accurate word for flex might be "articulation" This refers to to the diagonal movement of the wheels (i.e the distance one tyre can move up onto an obstacle with the other three on the ground)

Travel is the distance the whole axle can move vertically. This is often a much smaller figure as it doesn't take any leverage or the effect of track width into account.

80 series diffs n coils with long travel shocks in the rear underneath a 40 series landcruiser
