Where to source a new motor ??? TD42

Post by Big Red Toy »

well its time to replace the motor in my ute as is farked..

Who can recommend a place? i'm not a fan of buying one from a wreckers or 2nd hand as no idea on the history of them, so looking at gettting either a new crate motor out of japan or who does change over rebuilds?

I had my motor pulled down & as told not to bother rebuilding it as it was too worn

Cheers

no idea how many k's are on the motor, it isn't the original, i was told as an estimate maybe 500-600K km's

But not wanting to repair this one just to source a replacement

get yourself a late model GU motor.

There was one up in broken hill 40k old with turbo and late model pump aneroid and 11 mm plunger was going for 6k (motor and turbo and new model pump)

I'd buy something like that.

I'm heading up to broken hill for OBC so i can have a look at the wreckers while i'am up there...

Does a GU one fit into a GQ without too many issues?

Should almost bolt straight in. Just use the GQ engine mounts. There may be some little wireing things to mod. But more likly just a plug being different. Also depending on what vintage the GQ is. The GU engine wil have a gear driven vac pump mounted on the front of the enigine. Instead of the stupid alt/vac set up. But thats a good thing.

my research, you will need to use the GQ engine mounts,

also, you will need tochange the plugs on the glow plug wire, oil pressure sender, temp sender, and maybe the odd other ones, but pretty straight forward,

you can fit the gq alt straight to gu brackets, engine mounts are the same or depends on chassis vintage ( 2 bolt early or 4 bolt late ) very easy swap
