Hi all!

I am looking to upgrade my current GQ TB42 as, I am afraid, she's a 89 Model and getting a bit long in the tooth.

I am looking around the $25,000 mark for the replacement and the requirements are 1999 Model at earliest, 100,000k's plus minus not much, manual.

I have looked through the Papers/Online and have seen a few Pajero's meet the above requirements well within the budget.

Now the car will be used for Offroad (low range) work a lot with a significant amount of touring as well, so a good allrounder would be excellent!

If I go down the Paj line, has to be the deisel!

Any tips on what to look for/pitfalls of this model would be fantastic!

Thanks in Advance!

If I had to buy another 4wd today, I'd be looking at what you're looking at.

By the late '90s, Mitsubishi had the Paj pretty well sorted. The drivetrain in the 2.8 is generally considered to be near Nissan strength, and the LSDs come close too.

The only reliability question I can think of is cylinder heads - some have cracked, but I don't know how common that is. Check carefully for oil in the radiator, coolant in the oil, consider a test for combustion gases in the radiator. Mitsubishi cooling systems are generally very good - if the temp gauge is rising on a test drive, there's a problem somewhere.

Other than that, the routine checks for offroad abuse - dents and scratches in the undercarriage.

Good luck,

Scott
