why wouldnt you want to turbo it, It cost me just on 2K to turbo and intercool my old RB Patrol and had 155kw at the rears with 33's. Way better on fuel and so dam quick. All second hand nissan bits and pieces.
For those sort of dollars youd be lucky to get a cam and exhuaust.
I have all the wiring diagrams if you interested.
But that said when mine was naturally aspirated, I put 33's on, big roof rack and 4inch lift, then i drove to canberra mostly at 125km/hr, occaisionly getting up to 150km/hr. Hill absolutely killed it. Sounds like you should be getting a little more from your rocket lol.
Pm me if you would like to know more about turboing your rig, I miss mine so bad.

I've got 35 muds, 4.6 diff gears and taken the resricter out of the inlet. Had it up to 130kph. Dies on the hills though
The cam might be your problem. At what stage does it kick in ?

I have extractors ...2.5 inch exhauast....baffle gone outa intake...snorkel....and I got it dyno tuned to suit mods..... as standard the rb30 runs a bit lean.
Fuel usage is now between 12.3l/100 and 14.4l/100 with bare truck ...going up to about 17-19l/100 towing camper....and is totally reliable.Hills knock it about ...especially with camper on ....but nowhere near as bad as it was standard. As for top end ....well lets just say it really boogies
. I am running 31s and 50 mm lift ...with long range tank ...dual batts...alloy bar .....all the usual touring stuff ....and get nearly 900 k to a tank.

When carby is removed from manifold...there is a heated pad/gasket setup there. Underneath it is a semicircle baffle looking thingy....CUT this off level with gasket...the reason for doing this is because total removal can lead to idle and just off idle issues when motor is hot. I also removed the grille / heater element while I was at it...but some folks don,t do this.If you study it a bit yu will be able to figure out which rivets to drill out to remove element without damaging gaskets.
Hope this helps.

fuel inject it and extractors + 2.5 inch exhaust helps heaps plus it makes it better offroad. im running 35's with 4.3 gears and have no probs cruising on 120kmh until it hits a hill
but turbo will fix that soon

on flat 115 easy but even going down a hill wont reach over 120 its od. the cam kicks in at 1500 but were thinking the cam is timed wrong.its a vl turbo cam.

if you run a turbo cam on a na motor it will have less power as the run lower compression. id stick a std cam in and see how it goes

Turbo performance cams (not totally sure in RB30, but as a general rule) will run a greater lift, druation, but less overlap. Honestly, turbocharge it, with a small turbo that comes on boost low down in the revs, and suitably tuned injection, you will see a massive improvement, and if driven easy, probably similar economy.
