Has anyone done a brake upgrade on a defender 110 eg aftermarket calipers slotted rotors? mine dosent seem to stop as well as it used to maybe the v8 and 36tyres has something to do with it plus I would like to get them upgraded before the blower goes on

dose it have vented discs up front? if not try and get some later model Rangie or Disco calipers and run slotted vented discs... i run 35's Simex on my 93 rangie and it will pull up pretty quick if the roads not wet

See if you can measure your caliper pistons.
There are two sizes, 41.3mm and (I think) 46mm.

If you've got the 41.3mm pistons, then a straightforward caliper swap will give you 25% more stopping power.

Vented rotors won't stop better when cold, but they will fade less when they get hot.

you do have 110 calipers and not rangie calipers?? (110 bigger, if they're solid discs, spacers can be used for vented option.)
like they said about vented, slows down fade, good for towing.
braided ss lines give better pedal feel and more direct brake pressure.
toorak tractor (VIC) have had 2 rover front ends with porsche rotors and larger calipers that fitted easily.
anthony johnson @ british 4wd (VIC) can do some sort of booster/master cyl. swap (disco s1??) that can help apparently.
hydroboost?? (very american ;)) look on pirate.
you can only fit so much inside a 15/16 inch wheel.

It all depends on the year. Some 110's have the smaller pistons, some have larger.
The calipers are available for both vented and solid rotors (as you know the difference is a fitted spacer).

36" tyres would have a lot to do with it - the extra diameter requires the brakes to work a lot harder due to the extra leverage and the additional rolling mass

Cheers mark was being a smart arse thanks for the info guys I remeber reading somewhere someone had used jag calipers ? the front axle is out of a vogue air susp rangie and I think the brakes are as well I'm not sure if the guys swaped them around they are vented but some days when I'm stop at set of traffic lights it looks like my car is on fire underneath there is a bit of smoke coming from them

110 calipers with vented rotors would be a good start then. ( slotted for the bling factor)

Make sure you measure the pistons first.
One set of 110 calipers I almost bought turned out to have the small 41.3mm pistons.
Would have been a pointless swap.

I put some EBC ones on the 90 - slotted/vented front, slotted rear. Improved the braking from poor to good, but then I found a faulty brake booster, replaced that which made the braking very very good.
Moral of the story, check your brakes are 100% first...
