Hey guys.
My SWb Gq has been running pretty badly the last day or two, lots of pinging and what not, and have been having trouble starting it. But toay when I was driving back from the local shops, the car started loosing power...the lights went out and eventually it just stopped. Luckily I was pretty much out the front of my place when that happened. Just wondering whether anyone knows what the problem could be.
Cheers
Josh

biggest problen with the TB42 is points, but that shouldnt make all your lights go out. i pissed my points off and fitted a petronix ignitor, best money i ever spent. have you checked the obvious like battery terminals, wires to coil etc?
carbuerettor problems can also cause rough running too, but your problem sounds electrical

Put petrol in a diesel, then you will hear it ping!!! Or use aerostart to start it.

Well all i know is its been pinging quote alot at start up and running really rough. I had the carby looked at not to long ago and hey said it was fine... I was quite confused about all the lights going off, the battery terminal was fine, if i hadnt had the lights on I would have thought it had of run out of fuel or something.

check ur alternator is charging u might be runnin low on battery juice. if u lost ur power and itll run like poo if ur coils only gettin just enough power.

Check ballast resistor for damage from corrosion, especially if you have dual batteries with one installed on that side.
Check alternator as suggested.
Check points and condensor.
Check coil operation.
Compression test.

similar thing happened to me whilst out driving and it turned out to be the big bunch of wires near the positive terminal the aircleaner was pushing on the top ones

+1, sounds like the alternator has shat itself and stopped charging. As you have been driving hte car it has slowly killed the battery to the point where it had nothing left and shut hte car down.

Yeah that sounds like it might be the problem. My old battery kept going flat a little while ago and I replaced it thinking that was the problem. So now I'm thinking it was the alternator.
And that explains the pinging and general rough running of the car?

I have had that problem, alternator died and took the battery with it.

Don't suppose anyone has a alternator lying around that I can buy off them? PM me if so

No but my alternator bought the farm over a year ago.
It was a blessing in disguise as it was only a pissy 55w one, gave me the opertunity to put something better in there.

Check the ALT fusible link located in the housing just near the main battery.
