Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Getting one made up for the rock, and I need to settle on a design, or at least an over all idea of what I want. Would love it if people who have made or have custom bars could post up some pics if they don't mind me copying parts of the design or even the whole thing

Not really after a tube bar so much cause I really want good front end protection from roo's and other objects, as I've only got 3rd party insurance




i kinda like this ATM, cause the Rocky's a pretty boxy car so a boxy bullbar would suit.

Also, if anyone has a 5poster on their 4WD, could they post up some pics, cause I really like em but don't want to loose too much approach angle, so if someones got around this somehow (besides 10"s of lift ) i'd love to see it

Yeah thanks i saw that one, not too fussed on the shape actually. And its got alot of tube

You pic is of an ARB bar for a defender. ARB used to make bars for Rockies, but I imagine threw the jigs out long ago.... much like when they threw the jigs out for the Gwagen bar they used to make.

It might be easier to modify an existing ARB bar than start from scratch.

I had an ARB whinch Bar on my old rocky, was pretty happy with it. Held up to the knocks etc and didnt look that bad at all.

I personally don't think it sits too low at all. Keep in mind this is with standard suspension.

Tuff Bullbars and Ute shop in Toowoomba whipped it up for me. Champion effort!

For those of us not mustering cattle wth our cars that might be a touch excessive.

This design would also limit off road capability due to the reduction in both approach angle and the width of the side rails.

Horses for courses I guess.

Mate,

The side bars are no wider than the factory door mirrors.

And as for the approach angle - it's nothing a couple of inches lift wouldn't fix anyway.....

door mirrors can fold back but side bars can't

I love the Cruiser one but, yeah, It would pretty much kill the approach angle. And most likely make my rocky lopsided towards the front

This mate of mine had to modify one to fit a hilux once, reckons he'd never do it again and would rather build from scratch. I thought WTH at first but hey, he's building it I'm just watching

so you dont want an ARB style bar
you dont want a tube bar
you dont want out back style bar

your kinda running out of options, draw a picture of wat your thinking and go from there. if your fabing' from scratch just gotta make sure your welds are up to scratch and that each piece is strong enuf to do its job

a mate and i made my tube bar at PGS with all the welders and cutters you need, i can tell you its a fair bit of work, id recon that if you like a bar then it would be easer to modify it to suit your car.

what ever you do: mesure and check then mesure and check again!

And a mates offered to build us one (swapping for tyres) so just need to settle on a general design. Looks like i'll stick with the one i posted up cause not many want to post pics by the sounds of it.

ARB and TJM bars a so similar in design right across the range, tube bars are tube bars and 5 posters are out back. if you like the ARB style then id mod one but thats me. if you like a 5 poster but want to retain aproach angle the play around with it. draw some pics, tack some scrap metal together and sit it on the car. you could even build one out of card board to see how it looks then use it as a template

sorry ive got no pics or links but on track make a bar which combines tube bar with more protection around the head lights that may interest you, there is a pic in the tube bar thread of it or get on the on track site. someone will put up a link im sure

You can get 5 posters which don't project forward at the bottom.

My type is a 'forward catcher' which is designed to stop any livestock / animal life from being forced down under the car.

If you're that worried about the approach angle, you just make the lower bar tuck back under the main channel instead of projecting forward like the one above.
