Yes it does matter , I was told by the guy who fitted my detroits not to run gear oil , but to run diff oil and yes there is a difference , he told me he would not warrant the detroits and centres if I used gear oil and no I'm not being smart , Cheers Paul.

My diff bloke (who runs detroits himself) said to run a heavy gear oil - or that the std spec oil would be fine.

what ever the car was designed to run from factory is what a detroit requires.
running something else may void the warrenty??

the running of heaver oil was to quiet them down abit. the new ones are alot quieter..

there is no point running LSD oil in the detroit, just waste of money, LSD oil is friction modified for clutch type LSD's, so the oil dont burn..

any good diff oil will do, just dont leave it long between changes, my detroit likes new oil every 8 to 10 000 k's. it starts to get twitchy, probably wouldnt notice it in a long wheel base?

Yep I have had detroits before, and still run them and I was always told to use straight 140, better on the R&P as well. I use Penrite comp oil and had no issues to date
