Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey, I know that this question has been asked many times but I have specific tyres I want to choose from... Ive got a GQ 4.2 petrol patrol and want to know which tyres would be best out of:

33" BFG Muddies
33" Cooper muddies
33" Goodyear MTR's
33" Maxxis Bighorn or mudzillas
all with new steel wheels with landcruiser offset
what do you guys reckon?

Mate pretty sure all your answers will come with a personal preference. I had BFG muddies and was happy with them. I now have MTRs and have been happy with them, they aren't as good in the wet though. Sometimes they seem to grip like shit to a blanket, other times there only just alright. Others I have had are old cooper stt's. They where a greast tyre, tore some lugs of though.

But there all muddies. How they wear and they handle comes down to personal preference allot.

I have 31 mt/rs, but have found that you need a fair bit of wheel speed to get them to clean out, something the poor little 2.4d doesnt have...

For my next car, ill be choosing between the maxis big horns or mickey thompson MTZ's, as hopefully it will be something with 4.2 and TD in its engine designation

Yeah I have no idea cause everyone has different opinions and ofcourse the tyres joints are telling me the ones they sell are best so they all say something different... Im kinda leaning towards the BFGs but ive been told they arent as good as they used to be????

Heard that about BFG's also. But the local 4wd shop sells Coopers as well as BFG's and he still runs BFG's. Dosent mean I would buy them though.
I personally like the look of the New Cooper Stt. But I think it will be what ever from that list is the cheapest next time I buy a set of tyres. As there all pretty good. And a Muddy is only 5% better than an AT anyway (thats from discussion ages ago)

I have had number 1 and number 3 out of that list (16" rim though). Out of those 2 I would definitely go the MTRs. But I am thinking of getting Maxxis Bighorns for my next wheels as they come in a narrower 33 than the MTR (for 16" rims).

Go the big horn unless you want comp tyres the go mudzillas, mudzillas will not last long on the road have good traction tho, Big horns are good also n look good, mtr are average to un predictable, bfg are not as good as they used to be every one I know will not buy another set of bfg my mate had his only 2 weeks n sold them for MT mtz

Have a close look at the Mickey T MTZ. Heaps of threads about them, search...........
New TOYO muddie is worth a look, but expensive.

mickey thompson MTZs are a better tyre in every way than all the tyres you are looking at

Why not claws ?

They wear a bit quicker but there an awrsome tyre.

Yeah I wanted something like claws or that but the wife drives the car to work everyday so I thought to many k's on the road would kill them.. even muddies wont last long I know but they shouldnt be to bad...

theres so many choices!!!

Mate I had a new set of the 33'' BGF's on my V8 40 series and I drove the arse out of them both on and off road and I got over 80,000km off each tyre! I would happily buy another set! I found them wick-ed off road aswell

Get a HT set (or leave on what you have) and get a play set if you do a lot of km's.

Mate i recently got a set of MAXXIS BIGHORNS you cant beat the price and so far i am very impressed on and offroad. They are awesome in mud, on rocks, climbing pretty much anything and handle sweet on the road, Only had them for about a month but yeah very impressed

Go the Goodyear MTR. You can also get tyre insurance with them for 16 each that covers any repairs or replacement if it cannot be repaired for the amount of tread you used.

Staked tyre on side wall of a 35" that was 2 months old and cost me $35 for a brand new tyre......

I love them in any condition and better on rock than Centipedes!

have you considered a set of mickey MTZ's? im getting those next week because ive heard so many good things about them from mates etc

I heard the BFG's aren't as good anymore due to a softer compound being used in manufacture. I've had a good run out of my muddies, about 80,000 kms and am looking at either BFG's or Cooper's, not sure which to go for though.

Iam looking for the cheapests a/t to use on the road and beach and if there is enough rain to turn to mud I will use my GT Radials mud 33/12.5/15 cost me $240 and they are a true 33

Buy some OEM H/Ts that poeple take off thier new 4x4s when they fit Muddies etc.

Don't listen to them...

Just go and wheel them hard and be happy with choosing the best all round 4b tyre
