Shackles and Action Pics!

Hey Y'all...

I bought a set of Mike H.'s shackles a few days ago, dropped them in, wound up the torsion bars and dropped the sway bar and what a difference!

The ride is smoother, the car looks and feels better and it has more clearance. I am already looking for other ways to go high, thinking about adding a few more leaves at the back.

After removing the sway bar there is a bit more body roll but not anything to worry about... if you want a cheap lift then this is highly reccomended!!

So off i went to celebrate and the following ensued...

Unfortunately the shackles and lift didnt hepl when in the following situation, gravity is a bitch... slid into a rut in an uncomfortable position.

Gladly we got the truck out without even a scratch!

Jeez Croz they look like nice slidey road tyres you've got on there!

Good to see you escaped with no damage.

yeah they arent real good in the ruff stuff.

I am really keen to get some All terrains or mud terrains on it soon, but with about 50% tread left on the michelins I cant bring myself to waste them.

I know what you mean- I put off the purchase of new tyres for ages. Road tyres can be fun off road, just as long as there's nothing to hit if you start sliding!

Cooper Discoverer A/T is worth a look, mine are a vast improvement over my old tyres off road.

Yeah, the windows came in handy for the exit. The log next to the car was convenient for exit too!

Hmmm, engineers and insurance and shackles... there is an interesting combination. Unfortunately I havent tried that so I cant actually comment.

I don't think extended shackles are looked on too favourably by insurance companies and most state motor registries (?) Getting your springs reset could be a better option if you're worried about the legalities.

Well I got my shackles from Mike on the weekend and will try and find some time during the week to fit them to Ferocious so I can try them out on saturday's travels.

Hey Croz, I haven't really had the time to sus it our but did you have to buy new bushes for them or did you use the ones that were already on???

Well fitted the extended shackles last night. After a hammer injury to the hand and a lot of odd looks from neighbours Ferocious is now a full 1.5 inches higher at the rear. My wife doesnt like it as it shows too much of "the dirty underneath" but it should interesting on Saturday to try out the extra wheel travel.

Ferocious has already got a 2.5 inch lift and is running 31x10.5x15's...   now got the extra 1.5 inches at the rear and in the new year a 2 inch body lift

And once all that is done in come the extractors and sports exhaust from MRT together with a set of Mickey T Radial Baja Claws.

I think I'm well on the way to having a beast of a truck.

G'Day Paul & Croz,

Glad to see those shackles are being put to good use :D

Yep - use the original rubber bushes with them - I found them to be the best compromise between soft & flexible for good offroading & comfortable ride & still had a reasonable long life.
Tried Urethane for a while - would've lasted forever probably but were way to hard, no flex, rough ride & squeeked like a bastard no matter how many times I greased them up.

I still have one set of Shackles left - they have Murray's name on them at the moment if he still wants them ( let me know mate ) otherwise they will be up for grabs.

later -
