Hi Team,
Today i took the family for an outing to Captain Cooks cottage ,from Coburg,,
On the way home selecting down to third was not possible and evem into second more difficult.
My neighbour is a 4x4 mech. so he changes the oil and more importantly gets rid of the old oil,but he puts in Morrey's oil additive,
I'm thinking of having the oil's all changed else where on the sly, neighbour's ok as a mate to drink with.
While i'm asking i've had another mech. tell me the valves are too tight due to not enough noise, now my mate adjusted the valves too and claims the noise theory is rubbish.
Someone here please fix up these delemas for me,
thanks Team,
and cheers

Additves "may" help. Sounds more like a tight clutch.
Valves... Adj to the vehicle spec not by noise...
What sort of Nissan is it?

Sounds like a clutch pedal free play adjustment.
Also check your passenger side engine mount (might be torn) - may cause the shudder/thump.

The engine mounts also have a captive block arrangement, there are small protrusions on the mount extensions that can contact each other and cause a thudding sound when reversing (hard to explain the design - i'll see if I can dig up some pics) I ended up trimming a small amount off the end of the protrusion.
Theory with these is that if an engine mount totally separates, the engine will not move out from these captive holders.
Did you use genuine engine mounts (pricey, yes, but the best for the job, as the aftermarket ones seem a little hard)

just took it for a drive myself ,a short one but the peddle is much futher up now, neighbour and i having a beer later he'll show me what he did, after the wife gets home from work to look after jnr,:-)
i can do all this on my Lada Niva so it's just learning whats what.
re engine mounts,,no we went for the cheaper non gen.,,thanks for the explanation on the mounts,,i've been up and down some hills around Bright with a broken one,,i'm guessing that with the new mounts and front castor bushings the corragations might be different now,
i did read your post on bolting the two broken parts together but had already bought the new ones.
my truck's coming along ok getting more confident with it's reliabillity as i continue to spend,;-)
unlike the Niva, which just started braking drive line parts,
all happy here, overhall starter motor and alternator next on my maintenance list,
thanks for your speedy help and advice
cheers all have a great x-mass,,
keep up the good posts ,great info!
