ive read a few threads around here the debate my question

with a 5" lift can you run the car without partime kit? fulltime AWD?

plan on getting partime kit of course, but is it possible?

do you just get bad vibrations? cant break anything or cause too much damage?

thanks for any info

I ran my old one without a part time kit, only had minor vibrations at 80km/h but then again the tyres hummed like airplane engines. I was too lazy to align the diffs properly

to convert your full time 4wd into part time 4wd, like patrols or base model 80series

main reason is so the front diff or tailshaft isnt spinning all the time you drive

more power, less wear and tear on front diff, reduces slack in driveline so no jerks when you pull your foot off too fast, and in the case of this prob reduces vibrations in big lifts

double cardon front shaft and it is all good after that, or cut your front diff into pieces and rotate the knuckles...d/c is much easier...hilux rear shaft from i believe extra cab with centre bearing fits the transfer, shorten to fit the diff

i guess the d/c would be good for 4wding reason once the 5" is in and the part time kit, i guess i will see what it feels like without one, if its bad i will have to get one

main reason of my post was if i was to put a 5" with no part time is it still possible to drive on road for a short period, for say a week or 2?

i ran a d/c in mine with 7" lift and it was fine.. ended up goin part time tho.. the money u spend on a new d/c u may as well spend on a part time kit, as the d/c's do wear out and they arent cheap to rebuild

Mine is 5" lift and full time no problems at all. I had to put new radius arms on and that fixed steering problems, but I never had any vibration etc...

even with a dc you will flog out your unis

i'd highly recommend going the part time kit... i had major issues even after a dc shaft was made up and put on... with a 5" lift that is.. vibrations were pretty bad before hand and with the DC it's hardly noticeable but depending how quiet your tyres are, you will only just slightly hear it... no fun when your unis start clinking 300kms away from ya home!
