Diesel trouble?? 2005engine into a 1990 hilux

my mate just spent 11K on a conversion putting a 2005model 3lt intercooled diesel into his 1990 hilux 4x4. he used all the computer wiring, everything down to the instrument cluster, everything! problem is it has absolutly ZERO power up untill 2100RPM then it just clicks and takes off. doesnt matter what gear, as soon as it hits 2100 its like the computer just says GOTIME! then after a couple of minutes driving the engine light comes on and it goes into Limp mode. Any suggestions b4 it goes down to the shop to get hooked up to the computer and checked out?
