other turbos for bundy

so while swapping the injector pump over i took the turbo pipe over the rocker cover off to be greeted with a fair bit of oil pissing out of it!!
looks like the turbos dumping oil into it, so im going to swap it for another ct20 i have but i have no idea on its condition either and am keen for some ebay trawling for a replacement, so what should i look for?
its a mighty 2lt by the way!!

a ct26 may fit, check the dimensions and bolt centres of the exhaust housing, the ct's have a pretty unique oil feed return (both in the bottom) a rebuild kit costs around $300 + labor.. (bloody dear garret is about 90!)

its as deisel so a bit of oil wont kill it, i would leave it until it blows smoke that is above 'reasonable' oil in the fuel pre-combustion in a petrol engine will lower the octane and cause it to ping/knock. deisels dont have that problem so you can get away with it.

becasue of the small capacity and poor design of the pipe oil seems to build up in the pipe over time (low air velocity doesnt drag it in) clean it out really well and check it each day to see how much oil is actually building up with reference to time.

also most oil into compressor housing issues are not the seal but an issue with the oil feed and return. (the seals arent designed to keep oil out of the housing, they are there to keep acompressed air out of the core. if there is a restriction in the oil return then the oil builds pressure higher than the air in the compressor housing it will work its way past the seal the oil should flow with little or no pressure (hence large return small (and often restricted) oil feed.) check these things out first, and dont rush into buying a turbo of ebay. you might get lucky (i did) but you cant check the thing out before buying and even then you wont know the seal's condition until you bolt it on and might end up worse than where you are now.

sorry, forgot, pull the rocker cover breather hose off and run it into another container for a week or so, you might find that the oil is from blow by (poor seal on the piston rings) blowing as vapour out the rocker cover, through the hose, being sucked into the turbo and collecting in the pipe.

if there is oil in the container. then your problem is bigger than the turbo.. just put a catch can in and empty it every now and then (or rebuild the motor!!)

cheers for that i was gonna swap turbos this arvo but ill do your catch can idea instead and see how it goes :cool:

Yeah if it's not blowing smoke catch can is the go they all do it to a certain extent
