in a buggy is it better to have a manual locker in both diffs, or just one either front or back and a cig/detroit in the other??? if usingonly on air locker is t better in the front or back??
also does the hood for pro-mod have to be from a 4wd drive?? reading the WErock book it dosen't say it has to. just seems that all the buggies i have seen have 4by bodies.

for airlockers you would notice most benifit of instaling a front seen as how almost all 4wds have a rear LSD. When you install the front lockers making it effectivly better ofroad than a rear locker that is disengaged

Not a buggy but Im airlocking the front of my zook and probably going welded or auto locker in the rear. I dont drive hard or fast so Im not too worried about the handling compromises on road of locked rear.

personally I would air lock the rear and auto (or CIG) the front.
The biggest disavantage of having the front permanantly locked is obviously the inability to steer
but that can be overcome by enabling 2wd low range (easy to do and no $$). I found I drive most tracks in 2wd LR and slip it back to 4wd for the fun bits
The rear does the majority of normal driving and I would love to "turn off the back" for the sad drive home at the end of the day.

yep if you can only afford one airlocker put it in the rear for a buggy

He is building a buggy, so the general rules of 4wd are out the window. Many new 4wd do have lsd, but the majorirty of old ones dont
Besides pretty much all the LSD's are crap offroad (patrol is okay). Also, if you plan to fit cutting brakes, with a welded or spool rear diff, they are useless, making digs harder to get tight. Ultimatley selectable front and rear is the best.

Exactly. But - but I remember POS saying the other day that the front diff on his buggy is rarely unlocked.
That would imply that if you are building a serious buggy with hydro steer - it would be better to have a rear ARB and a welded front, rather than the other way around???

I'd go selectable locker all day, every day. The ability to have it on and off exactly when you want is crucial for tight maneuvering etc.
Saying that, I'm pretty sure Shane has Detroits in the Firebug and it seems to do ok.
Probably comes down to personal preference and driving style.

yep its for a rock crwling buggy - no driving home, only trailer.
the reason i carn't go two airlockers is really just funds. so i was curious witch diff would be better to be selectable. not worried about cutting brakes either
(at the moment)
Thats what we have, with disconnect of course.
with drive shaft is disconnected??? i would have thought the rear?

Rear disconnect, so cuts off drive to the rear.
Budget for a disconnect, almost as important as an engine.

sierrajim, do you understand the rules for full hydro on a promod??? from my understanding you still need links to steering wheel - because you need to be able to turn the wheels with the ram disconnected. is this right??
