Unless you are competing, I think it comes down to personal preference. They are both heavy duty bias ply, both are aggressive, both will do an awesome job on the trails (especially on a fullsize patrol) but only the JT2s can be born again by regrooving (cut). I run JT2s on my mav wagon and my Camolux, got them for a good price, and when they wear out, I will get them cut and get another life out of both sets.
Certain tyre shops can do this, using a special tyre grooving iron.
Yeah you could use a grinder, but be careful of the noxious fumes and the mess that this method will make.
There is a lot of rubber in these tyres, once the gaps disappear between the blocks you could safely regroove to a depth of 10-12mm. The grooving irons have a depth gauge you can set to ensure depth control.
Looks very similar to the tread pattern used on german military heavy vehicles in the '40s.
isn't yours a 2.8? Will a 2.8 turn them? A mate had one and had to put low transfercase gears in it. Yours may be different. A locker would be a good investment! The mav goes great when i have just the all terrains on & twin arb's. BUt if it's wet i am stuffed, then i put on the claws. MMM more money down the
