Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I know its been touched on but before I shell out my hard earned $$ on a new 1300 radiator will it effeciantly cool a vit 1600?

What vit motor u got?

Have u got the original fan and shroud in there also?

I am running the G16B mpfi with the orig 1300 radiator using the vit viscous fan and also the a/c fan as additional airflow when crawling or high rpm sand.

A few people have said a proper 1.3 cooling system will cool a 1.3 easiely.

Its a 8valve carby 1600.
I ran a thermo with the 1300 and Ive been running it on the 1600 to.
The 1300 started running a bit warm just before I took it out. But the radiator is about 6 years old and its had a hard life and doing 4500rpm for long periods on the highway probably dosnt help!

should be ok, out of the 6 years it might have only been used 1 year in total has it been getting hot how it is? an also i dun got no credit, but i been to cess an aint seen a zuk on side of road,

A 1.3 rad in half decent condition will easily cool even a modified 1.6 8v..

Mine only ever looked like overheating when the rad was 90% blocked with mud on a 35+ degree day (avatar pic is of that day launching into thick shake consistancy mud) with nothing more than the standard viscous fan that comes with the 1.6 and the fan shroud.

On your avatar day, it more than "looked like overheating" I think it was F#$%^% hot from memory.

When I had finished rebuilding your car it it ran a bit warm on the highway. Viscous fans are a real black art and don't have good confidence that a vitara viscous fan will operate properly in a sierra application.

I think th at with a sierra (fixed) fan, shroud and sierra radiator in good nick you should be fine.

On a few if the steep climbs it got a bit hot, but never actually overheated. Considering the ambient temp was in the mid to high 30's I was running big heavey rubber and had almost no airflow through the radiator or around the engine, I would say that no matter what it would have gotten very hot. (under normal circumstances I never ever had issues with it getting even close to warm ... alot else was very very wrong with that little truck, but the motor/cooling system was not one of those things. You also had some trouble with it cutting out/wireing issues that I never did )
I managed to drive home from Dissa to Essendon with the only stops being for gregs clutch and helping some slappers in a busted VC bommadore.

I also now have my little bro's Zuk with a 1.6 that has the viscous fan, I drove at 110 to 120 kph for the 80k each way between Wangartta and Bright a few times with temps in the low air temps 40's without overheating issues ..

if your paying money why not just get a vit radiator? they fit with minimal bracket mods and the vitara fan and shroud lines up spot on

Thanks for the input guys. Zooki I also have a vit auto radiator that came with the engine. Ive done lots of measuring and to fit it under the bonnet ( no body lift ) it would have to set between the chassis rails instead of above like the sierra one. There dosnt seem to be enough space betwwen the chassis rails to fit it. Not sure if vits had different size radiators for manual and auto to allow for the auto cooler in the bottom of it?

Save the stuffing about and hook up the 1.3 rad and call it good .. If you have issues (and thats a big IF ) you can install the vit rad.

From what I gather it should be fine?? Its only running a little hotter than the 1300 but Im thinking (hoping) its just the radiator being old and bloked. Ive back flushed the radiator block and the heater core and its still the same. Oh well I,ll just give it a go if it dosnt work I spose there will be a brand new used once radiator for sale
Is it just the way my 1600 sits or are others offset to the STANDARD location of the radiator? Other wise I would try the clutch fan and shroud.

my 1600 sits about 10-15mm to drivers side for the fan shrould. i managed to move the shroud over enough so it fits up.

I picked up my new seirra radiator today. While I was there I found out the manual and auto radiators are the same size but there is another vit radiator that is the same hieght but wider.

chuck the thermo in the bin and use the standard fan. i whacked a new 1.3 radiator in same setup as you have and flogged it for bout 3 hrs couldnt get needle to move at all.

I had a look at the way the water pump is in relation to the radiator and it looked too offset 1/4 of the fan would be off the radiator. I just made up some brackets across the radiator and mounted the thermo to that. Ive never had cooling problems because of the thermo.
