How do i get rid of the clutch booster?

Post by 351ciofgrunt »

Hey guys,

I've got a GQ wagon and i'm putting in a 351c but the valve covers are hitting the clutch booster, I've heard that i can run a non booster clutch master cylinder, how do i go about this? Did some patrols come out with non power assisted clutches? Do i just have to go to the wreckers and pick one up?

Thanks, cant wait to hear that V8 roar!

yeh all poverty packs had non boosted clutch, even my 97 2.8L RX doesnt have one, i cant guarntee that they bolt up so maybe goto a wrecker and check one out, the cylendars are pretty similar u might be able to make an adapter plate. ud be able to buy aftermarket PBR one or somethin for sure.

Your story is no good without pics. Would love to do that in my Mav. At least it would partly Ford rather than a rebadged Nissan.

in my DX cab, I upgraded to booster assisted clutch when I did the body swap.

I also removed a dirty great big return spring in the clutch pedal, up in the pedal box at the pivot

you may need to source that if you want to go booster-less

Thanks for the quick responses! I'll head over to the wreckers and see what they've got, cheers for the tip on the return spring.

I'll post up some photos when I'm done, I'm planning on racing it at the Gymkhanas at Landcruiser 4wd Park by October hopefully.

when you remove the booster,. you need the little metal spacer that goes in its space.
