hi..tis 12v has 3 output terminals,2 together and 1 seperate(the output)
its hitachi..and has vac pump..
any idea of model no??alternator light is starting to glow when it shouldn't...need to know model for spares...its not marked...its bigger than an lr160 (that i have ,but cant use as vac pump is "upside down") the body is same lenght but fatter

ALSO has an extra wire coming from inside (windings??) that connects to rev counter..looks home brew!!
does the hitachi alternator have a terminal to go to rev counter as standard???

oh any idea of cure?? brushes??oh rev counter has been losing all idication randomly once alternator gets hot...ie its very random..getting worse..

thanks

They don't have any provision for a tacho.
Not sure on model number, but there's nothing tricky to rebuilding them.
Brushes are a pretty common sort, but in a pinch garden variety Bosch ones can be fitted with 30 seconds of wet&dry effort.
The diode packs are a common sort too.

I'll try and dig the model # up tomight.

i'd say brushs But can't be sure till its aparts, i'm going through the same thing with my alternator. I did not thing they came out with tach on the alt, but on the bottom of the motor near the injection pump on a sender. You may have a bitsa then again i could be wrong..

MQs have the alt in a spot that just asks to pick up mud, pull it apart, give the brushes abit of a clean, and ill bet that ya have no probs with the light comming on again (at least not till ya play in more mud :P )

I have had an MQ Alternator apart, and they are almost the same internally as the Hitachi fitted to the TD42, except they have an external regulator. The 2 cables coming out together go to the externally mounted Regulator--Alternator warning lamp comes from the external regulator. Check for worn out/oil contaminated brushes/sliprings--A dim Alternator lamp can be a faulty output diode...
