I have noticed that there are a fair few cruisers with the petrols coming on the market. prolly has alot to do with the price of fuel and them having a rep as guzzlers...

I have researched the dieselvpetrol debate and am not interested in discussing the pro's and con's of each.. whilst it is generally accepted that a well looked after diesel will get a lot more k's, how many should you expect on a well looked after 4500i before a rebuild would be warranted..

generally speaking of course...

I've seen plenty around that have between 250,000 and 300,000km's on them. I remember at the time the 4.5 litre was released, Toyota said that it was residned to do 1,000,000km's with a couple of refreshes along the way.

mines just clocked 200k and my mates is in the early 300k mark. both vehicles have performed faultlessly though we both err on the side of caution when servicing and maintenance are done prefering to replace stuff before they brake rather than when we need them most.

Both trucks run 35s and big lifts and are always being driven up tracks their not designd for :D

Mine had 300K on it when i wrote it off. The oil was still golden and it had never been re-built. But had been serviced by Toyota with all genuine filters its entire life.

These motors are loosly based on the 4AGE. Both Twin Cam Multi Valve and handle High RPMs. The 4age is good for 500K+ if looked after.

With how well mine ran i beleive it would have easily got 500K+ without being touched.

following on from that..

what sort of compression would indicate that the engine is getting tired and would soon require a rebuild...

cheers...

Intersted in a petrol 80 at the moment.
Have noticed also a lot of cheap petrols up for sale.
How bad is the fuel economy?

You can expect around 20L/100k. Pretty thirsty. I had mine converted to gas not long after I got it. I was sending me broke :?

Is the economy better now with lpg?
Was considering one for the new family wagon and towing a camper.

$6,000 to $8,000 seemed like a good buy for a petrol 80
