all i know is the firing order which is 153624

get TDC mark on the crank lined up, it should then be at number 1

It needs to be TDC of compression stroke, remember that the crank rotates 2 times to the cams 1 time on a full cycle, so setting the crank at on the timing mark is either TDC of compression stroke, or TDC of exhaust stroke. Best way is to get the motor to the TDC of compression stroke on number 1 cylinger, then see where the rotor is pointing. That will be number 1 lead. Then follow the distrbutor cap round the dirrection of the rotors rotation. 153642 is the firing order, so after number 1 lead will come number 5 lead and so on (not sure which dirrection the rotor rotates sorry :D)

Don't you mean 1-5-3-6-2-4 Layto??? The rotor should rotate clockwise. If you don't know what stroke compression is, then drop a plug out and hold your finger over the hole. You will soon see when it is on compression. If you have the rocker cover off, both the front tappets should be rocking....ie, no pressure on the valves. Hope this helps....
