HILUX INTERCOOLER

Has anyone fitted a top mount intercooler to a 2.8 turbo diesel? i wanna do it to my 2.8 with a ct20 turbo on it. any help would be great

I will be soon.
I have a datto scoop to use from a GU.
Will also be trying to squeeze a very small thermo fan in there as well so it doesnt become an interwarmer at crawling speeds.
I will post up some pics when I do it, I just got the scoop back from the panel shop with a nice shiny paint job.

i am going to be doing this myself i was told without upping fuel/boost you'll get a 6%increase and then it varyies from there when u start playing with things was told not to go over a maximum of 12psi and to be careful of EGT's.

im saving to do a turbo set up with a ct20 (im getting it completely rebuilt) and im thinking of running a water to air intercooler, the intercooler water will be cooled by a transmission cooler with a thermo and im gonna mount this in the tray. I think its gonna be pretty good, and it'll turn out alot cheaper than the glycol to air intercooler set ups that places like 4wd systems sell.

sweet thanks for the feeback guys, ive got a gu patrol bonnet scoop and a gt4 top intercooler, just a matter of getting some pipe work bent up and hope it fits ok. what themo fan are you going to use?? geeze it will be tight, will the cooler really heat the air a low speeds 4x4in ect

I have a 40mm body lift so will have a little bit of room, it will be a squeeze but I reckon it will be doable.
Not sure what thermo yet but Im sure with the power of the internet I can find a suitable one
.
There is a lot of heat in the engine bay and if there is no air being forced in the scoop ie slow speed crawling, hot air rises, straight into your intercooler.
This is why so many people go with front mount coolers.

the water to air intercoolers are small enough to fit under the bonnet ( this is the type
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Liquid-Water-to- ... dZViewItem) so the water thats running through it will get hot, so im gonna run some piping to my tray for the water and into a transmission cooler with a thermo on it, so i dont have to cut my bonnet or anything and i get an effecient intercooler without having to worry about damaging an air to air intercooler with rocks, or filling it with mud. To move the water around im just gonna use an inline water pump like you find on boats they're small and cheap.

Anyone thought of putting the intercooler on top of the passengers side wheel arch ,heaps of room there. Would suit an intercooler with inlet and returns on same side.

I have a safari front mount on my 2.8, its a tight fit, but its in there and works very efficiently.

spend some money on a pyro so you know whats safe and whats not before you play with boost and find out the hard, and expensive way!

Hi,
I fitted a top mount intercooler to my 2LT, which use a CT 20. No body lift. The intercooler dimensions are 800x400x75mm. I did however lift the bonnect 1/2" using nuts on the hings .
Do some research so as not to block your dip stick and access!!...I learned da hard way.
