Hi All,

I am here in Canada and have restored an HZJ79 pickup.

I have just ordered a locking diff for the rear and am wondering what axle shaft I need for it. Do I need the long side (left) with long spline, or do I need the short shaft with longspline? Or do I need a longspline axle at all?

I have found out the hard way that the axle shafts are different from the older 75 series:)

Thanks for your help!

Best off trying Pirate 4x4 mate, as the factory lockers ain't that common out here.

My brother has one but im too lazy to pull it apart for you.

If you need to order anything from down here, or get really stuck ill find out.

Is it a genuine Toyota locker or an after market one like ARB etc'
A genuine Toyota locker requires the housing to be modified to accept it and 79's and 100's have different splines and flanges to the earlier model axles so the side gears in the locker need to have the correct splines as well.

Hi Guys, thanks for your posts. I ended up buying a new long spline shaft from japan for 180 CDN, about 230 delivered to my door - awsome price - and from toyota. Fit great - works awsome.
