I rebuilt both rear hubs a couple of weeks ago but didnt use any blue rtv silicone on the axle flanges just the gaskets.

Ive had no problem like it is but im wondering if there is any benefit in pulling the axle and glueing both faces of the gasket with the silicone then reinstalling ?

Im thinking mainly from a waterproofing point of view......

cheers

Was the gasket in one peice when you put it back together??

If it was it should seal up great......

yep all new gaskets.

Figured it would be ok otherwise but just wanted to check.

Makes it heaps easier to get the axles in and out when they arent siliconed in as well.

thanks.

If no oil is coming out water wont get in UNLESS diff breather is blocked or standard Toyota spring loaded type.
