Hey People,

Just came over to the land of Mitsubishi from Toyota.

I picked myself up a SWB NL with 180k on the clock and I am doing a major service just to make sure everything is ok (and for peace of mind)

Just a few quick questions you guys might be able to answer for me.

1. When changing the Timeing belt, should the Hydraulic Tensioner be changed at the same time or only if it s stuffed?

2. Should I do the water pump at the same time as the timing belt?

3. Platinum or Iridium Plugs?

4. As far a oils go, I have a bttle of Castrol Magnatec 10w40 that should be fine ( I Think) as far as I have read in the forums, but what oils do you guys use for the GB (Manual), Transfer and Diff (Rear being LSD)?

Any other helpful tips for doing the Major service would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for you comments in advance.

Cheers
Lonnie

1. Only if it pushes in really easy. Put it in the vice and if it's hard to push in then its fine.

2. I would

3. Either or they are pretty much the same thing.

Was told by a mitsubishi mechanic that magnatec oil will gum up the hydraulic lifters in paj motors and should not be run>. I ran it in my old motor before it blew howevver it was a mechanical failure that caused it to blow not oil related.

Engine - Mobil 1 5W50 (10 000km)

Gearbox - VMX (20 000km)

Transfer & Diffs - An 80 - 90 oil but can't remember which one - just did it last week too

I change the Gear box oil often as my vehicle only does about 5000km a year and I believe oil is cheap. I have not had any gearbox troubles. Engine every 10k, it drains out nice and clean but it does need possibly 3 top ups between changes (3L)

O and yes do the water pump. It is quite a job to get into the front of the motor so while your in there - change it!

By all acounts I think the SOHC is easier to change this.
