Outer Limits 4x4 Board

When off road the ol girl gets a bit on the warm side, up towards the 3/4 mark, particularly when climbing, out moving around without being under load, no probs.

A couple of questions,
1. is this common?
2. Is there a fix/es?
3. Is it expesive to fix?

Need to know before gas goes on.

Couple of things, the gauges are inaccurate and vary from vehicle to vehicle, Ive seen some where 100 Deg c was under 1/2 and some where 100 deg c was above 3/4. Check it against an accurate gauge that measures in degrees. Take the radiator out and clean the mud out between the core fins. The clutch fans fail, does yours become louder as the car gets hot?? It should roar and blow significantly more air when the vehicle is hot, if not replace it. The clutch fan relies on absobing heat from the radiator, if the radiator is blocked either inside or out it won't transfere heat to the clutch effectivly and the clutch won't engage even if it's not faulty.

Thanks champ, I'll pull the radiator and give it a good clean. Might invest in an aftermarket temp gauge too.

What do you reckon about pitching the stock engine fan and fitting up the twin fan setup from an EL or AU? Hopefully that might sort it, if not its down to the rad shop.

Still workin out this Nissan Patrol thing, was a yota lad for so long.

What have you done to check it out first? ANything?

Changed thermostat? rad hoses? rad cap? cleaned radiator? had it reverse flushed? checked for internal blockages? temp gauge sender? had system pressure flushed?

Just thought I would ask the Qs and go from there. I'll hit that list of things over the weekend and book it in with someone for the stuff I can't do next week. Thanks for feedback.

mine used to do it too, turned out to be the viscous fan hub that was crook. sourced another from another forum member and havent had a problem since

Would it be worth running as a straight fan without the viscous bit???

Keep the vicous, they are very effective when they work.

how different is the GQ from the GU?
i have never seen the guage on my GU move except for the time i was towing CAPCRAP's car back from stockton (nearly 3t) on a 30 degree day going up the big long hill on the f3 on the way back to shitney.
i had the aircon on, 3 people in the car and full of gear and i wasnt paying much attention to what gear i was in.
kinda stuffed me up as i had to drop to 3rd and hold 70-80kph all the way up the hill

it only moved from its usuall 1/3 or so to maybe half by the time i got to the top

i had same problem and mine too was the viscous hub , i drilled it and tapped it to take two 1/4" npt plugs and put 2 satchets of that silicon oil in it and all is good .

hey mate when you get it worked out let me know as i have the same issue.

done my fan and cleaned out the Rad so next step is to take it in and get someone to have a look.
