Howdy folks, Fairly new here and also new to 4x4, I have been ploughing through the forums for the last couple of weeks and it has answered a lot of questions

I have a 1969 fj40, and want to do some suspension work, brake upgrade, power steering, locking diffs, generally a fair amount of changes and don't know any engineers in the Canberra region that will do a 4x4. Any advice will be appreciated. Also, does anyone from canberra know if SOA for the front is legal (after engineering) I am planning to change to 4 link coils on the rear and an SOA front, if it possible.
Cheers
Ashley

Ashley,
You wont be able to get away with much here at all. Best try and register it in NSW and have it engineered there.
Otherwise think there might be only 2 canberra engineers , 1 being a guy named John Wilson. Should be able to find him in the phone book out at Little Burra.

There are only three engineers that ACT rego will deal with.
Ray Spence at Canberra Motorworks Mitchell ph 6241 8777
Mario Larocca at Marlock Engineering Qbyn ph 62993400
John Wilson AKZ Engineering on 0417230074
General opinion on here seems to favour John or Ray. Definately speak to them before you do the work, better to have them involved from the start than to refuse something because you can not satisfy them on how it was done.

if the truck is regestered in the act, don't worry about it. no yearly rego checks! only reason i can drive mine on the road

Thanks guys, I have spoken to john this afternoon and he has ok'd the 4 link rear and the SOA front, so long as it stays below 6" lift, also the disk brakes, power steer and air lockers are all fine, so i'm a very happy man, soon to have a very unhappy bank manager

If you really want to be smart about it, ring the dickson motor registry and tell them of your plans to modify and engineer.
I rang them to find out if i could buy a nsw engineered GQ with a 6" lift and 35s.
I only said the word 6inch lift and the dude at rego laughed at me and said there would be no way thses days you would be able to register something like that in the act.

Some new rules came out last year stating that you can only have a total of 150mm, this includes springs, bodylift, and tyres

Yes, total lift must not exceed 150mm, and this does include your wheels. Nothing beats having a friend working for DOTARS to print out all the relevant ADRs

though it would be better if some of the ADRs made sense. I will avoid dickson like the plague, get it engineered, take it to get inspected at any service station = rego.
Since there are mostly Canberra people answering this post, I might hijack my own thread and ask "is there a club here in canberra that you guys belong to?" I have googled till my fingers bleed but can't find one

Once your truck is engineered you will have no choice than to take it to Dickson.
To avoid the inspection you can rego it first then modify and engineer then dont bother getting it inspected.
