Jackaroo's on gas
Hi one and all can someone please give me some advice on LPG on jackaroo's as I'm looking at buying a 1992 HSV XS 3.2lt in which I would like to convert if I go ahead with purchase. thank you for your help
Have done a few of these with Impco over the years.
Not the best engine for gas but so far all of the ones I look after are running great.
There are a few tricks with the way the system should be wired up so as not to interfere with the petrol ECU operation and diagnostics, otherwise lazy fitters will cut the check eng light when running on gas.
Run a valve lubricator and change plugs regularly (half the factory interval) and use di-electric grease on ends of the coils where they go into the heads to maximise the resistance of spark leakage.
Therefore minimising the chances of backfire.

I use platinum plugs with the coldest range on mine and the grease on the plug heads.
I've also got aftermarket valves which are LPG compatible and no valve lube.
Mines a Gastech 31 system and not very occasionally the Check Engine light will come on when running on gas (which is most of the time) and the Gastech user manual says that it is common on many vehicles for this to happen. Something to do with the 02 sensor and different exhaust gases to petrol ones.
The system also has an injector simulator which "fools" the ECU into thinking that the injectors are still working and most cars on LPG with an ECU would have one of these.
