is it posiable to remove the crank without taking out the whole motor?
is it easier to take the whole thing out with the gear box?
dropped a brearing cap through the sump and made a huge mess of the 1st piston.

do you need the crank out?
coz you can take pistons out without taking the crank out

if your motor has thrown a rod then it's very likely that much more than the rod and crank are damaged.
it is possible to drop the crank with the engine installed however it is necessary to drop the gearbox so it's definitely easier to pull out the whole engine and gearbox and put the engine on a stand to work on it.

it would be greatly advised to take the engine out, put it on a stand, and go over it carefully. make sure there are no cracks in the block.

i will eventually take the whole thing out, but with the time restraints im doing little bits at a time, i agree there will be heaps of damage, theres a large bit of the piston in the sump and the end cap is in about 30 bits, its a great site in a sad way....lol, im hoping to get it rebuilt or if a donor one comes along put that in... i did see a 2f on ebay but think id rather stay with the 3f

3F engine's are cheap to buy from the wreckers that would be the easiest way to go.

Hey DJ how did you know I had a 3F block laying around
Now worries Seaeagle, I agree a reco at this point is the best way to go small price to pay for peice of mind, like I said the engine always looked pretty good in the cyclinders, the head just needed some TLC which it certainaly got
Try Ebay for a Factory Service Manual or serch for 3F engine repair manual (pub. No. 36253E)
Also a lot of tec Info here on the 60 series section
