Howdy, didn't want to hijack another tread. Who on here has purchased a suspension conversion kit from anywhere? who was it from? is it any good? or has anyone customer fabbed their own setup?

I am looking at the 4 link rear and the SOA front kits available from proffittscruisers.com but don't have any experiance with these, so I don't know if they are any good, or if I'm being ripped off?

Any experiances will be appreciated.

cheers

Ashley

Adjusted title to better reflect question......so, anyone? not trying to be pushy :) just trying to gauge opinions on what has worked for others.
I want the 40 is mainly for some fun on the weekends, will never be a daily, but I would like it to not kill me on the highway

http://www.proffittscruisers.com/suspension/coils.html is the main page with the details of the product and some pictures underneath, They are sending me some pictures of the actual product (what they will be sending me if I decide to buy) and some better details, but I haven't gotten the email as yet.
I am looking at the 4 link setup for the rear, and an SOA kit for the front. Though the SOA kit is only $150 US because I don't want them to freight me a cut and turned housing, when I can get the work done locally.
Also I'm looking at the $600 kit for the 4 link.
When I get the email I'll post the info up so people can see.

cheers

Just go springover dude. There's heaps of writeups and how to's all over the net and it will be a shiteload easier than a coil conversion. If you're up to it, do a Shackle reversal too.

For SOA, you will need to:

Buy extended brakelines from BBM/snake etc.
Buy/make 4x spring perches.
Buy/make/have made either Hi-steer arms or a crossover arm
Get 35s as a minimum. smaller tyres look stoooopid.
Get an angleometer for setting castor.

Everything else is nuts and bolts. I would also recommend getting the knuckles on your front diff cut and rotated, or diy if you feel capable. You could get away with it with stock springs but its better with it done.

http://www.menet.umn.edu/~vandeven/so.htm
will give you a good overview of the SOA and processes involved.

www.ih8mud.com should also be in every cruiserhead's Favourites ;)

Also, that link you posted has the 4-link kit for $600 US by the time its landed here, and converted to our currency I reckon the price would be around the $1000 mark. Then you still have to set up your link angles and crossmembers etc.

If you seriously want a 4-link in the back of you 40, you would be much better off doing it yourself.

Link material= a length of heavy wall tube or SHS $100 max
As heims are illegal for road use in Aus, use GQ control arm bushes =$60 for 4
80 series coils=$100 max.
Plus misc. crossmembers, gussets, bracketry= $100 at the steel yard and quality time with the welder/grinder

Before you start though, read this:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthre ... suspension

it will melt your brain initially but stay with it and it will eventually make sense. Pay particular attention to what Strangerover has to say ;)

Honestly though, for a 40 for weekend use only I would go the sprinover with a couple of load leaves removed and have a blast.

Or check out my current FJ40 build in members section
5link rear, 3link front.

1UZ swap

4 Wheel discs etc.

http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/viewtopic ... sc&start=0

There would also be local companies in Canberra that would be happy to build a 4 link for you.

Carlton could help there,

Proffits is a great shop. just being in another country and frieghting the gear out hear sucks, AQIS and customs all charge you etc etc.
