HOW MUCH PSI SHOULD IT RUN?????

HI I JUST BOUGHT A 85 HILUX TURBO DIESEL 2.4 AND ITS RUNNING
50 KPA /3 PSI HOW MUCH SHOULD IT RUN FROM STANDARD ? CAN ANYONE HELP

somewhere between 6 and 8 psi...

It would be aftermarket... maybe look for some identifiable stickers should give us more info.

50 kpa is 7 psi. A 2.4 was never turboed as standard for a hilux, only old surfs. If you are at this figure its ok, just watch exhaust temps.

10-12 psi is a good guide to start at,but recommend fitting a pyrometer first if you dont want a melt down. As long as you stay under 600-650degrees exhaust temp. should be right.

Adding boost dosen't raise the exhaust temps generally unless the turbo is peaked and the turbo outlet air temps are very high, the fuel added by adjusting the pump generates the heat, and additional power. Raising the boost alone without fuel will generally lower exhaust temps and will not result in large power gains, rich is hot lean is cool.
Thats no reason to go boost crazy as the turbo has to be capable and the cylinder pressure still goes up with boost putting greater pressure on engine internals.
