I was looking at the new hilux D4D engne specs and noticed that in 2005, they had 120kw@3400rpm and 343nm@1400rpm, and now Toyota are quoting 126kw@3400rpm and 343nm@1400rpm ... how is that possible? Its physically impossible to increase power without increasing torque in the same engine with out increasing the rev limit - basic mathmatics Power=torque x RPM.

you need to remember those figure's are only at those rpm specified.
eg its 126kw@3400 rpm. they simply increased the torque at 3400rpm. they didn't change the torque at 1400rpm.
sounds like they changed the tuning a bit. vehicles get different tuning and different power outputs around the world. may be due to emission standards or available fuel. maybe they are having to match the opposition ?

When the engine was retuned for euro 4 specs is when the power figure went up
Its not noticable when driving them
