Righto I have got the pump bracket and box from an fj60 sitting in my shed and I want to give my FJ40 power steering to match its new disk brakes. Could someone who has done this tell me how they did it and point me in the right direction
Thanks

You the same fieldsy on the lcml? Mark Whatley has done this as have several others. It's not too difficlutl. Mount the 60 box to the frame rails. You may have to trim the driver's side shock tower, and it's a good idea to drill holes thru the frame, and then fill with stell tube so the frame deosn't crush as you tighten the mounting bolts down. You then either have to fill and ream the 60 pitman arm to take the 40 rod end, or have a custom drag link made with 60 on one end, and 40 on the other. You'll have to lengthen your steering column bar where the rag joint goes to make it long enough to get to the box...

you will need an fj55 steering column and shaft
i think the fj70 looks similar (as is easier to come by)

i thought when putting a 60 series box on a 40 you need to move the shock tower to the rear side of the shock. then trim a bit off to fit the shaft.

Had a brain wave about this last night while laying in bed ( that's where I get all my good ideas) What if you made up a plate to work as a spacer between the box and the chassis. Thus negateing the need to move the shock tower. I was even thinking if the spacer is the right size you might be able to get away with useing the orignal relay rod.

the original relay rod is too short. and the tie rod sizes are different. i found this out as im doing it at the moment. so im just putting in 60 series diffs too.
the box mounts to where the shock tower sits. and if you space it out your steering colum will be through your guard and shocker.
to fix this and upgrade im going to put in shock hoops. maybe strong enough for coilovers.
(not in the near future)

Talk to him about it

Nah mine is still siting in the shead. I sort of got sidetracked with the whole "let's bung a 308 in me 40" thing. but I have made a list of parts that i think is all I need feel free to comment
1. bundera steering shaft. (they tell me it fit's but I also want to do a 50mm body lift too so I don't know)
2. Column from a FJ/HZ 75 (figre if I have to put a FJ55 one in I might as well go the whole hog)
3.FJ/HJ75 steering arms & drag links ( aparently they fit)
4. Steering damper mount bracket from a FJ60 (I think I will need this)

i think you could get away without the 75 gear. but id say you would be better off getting it.
i found the tie rod end off a 40 has a larger sized thread, that screws into the 60 series drag link.
i used a drivers side 40 series TIE ROD end and wound that into the 60 series DRAG LINK. works fine.
size chart for the threaded sections:
Small - 40 series Drag link
Medium - 40 series tie rod / 60 series drag link (same size)
Large - 60 series tie rod
