this will be interesting!
234567th time this is asked.
personally i think they are a good tyre. not as good as the centrepede but pretty damn good. noise wise they are pretty bad. trekkers are a lil smoother and quiter on da road but not much..

they are a soft compound tyre so they do wear out quick. they road will kill em pretty quick. dont expect too many kays outa them. hard to say cause they will wear differently due to terrain change. id say around 20k -/+

v. fast wearing on the road. Definitely wouldn't want to drive every day on them unless you have $$'s to burn. They're in a completely different legue to muddies like BFG's or Coopers.

yeah i'd think you'd be going to get 20k out of them on the road and the noise will sound cool but after a while it will piss you off and then there will be no tread left to make a noise.

I'd go another set tomorrow for weekend tires... very kewl, but fuckin noisey like a pr of twin engined prop planes next to you :( cop bait.
what price have you on them, as I would go the same size, although a bloke on here has given me a good price on some Q78's...

Run beadlocks or run them hard. If you air them down they like nothing better than falling off rims. Otherwise, they seem ok.
for my money, you can't go past Q78 swampers. I have run them on my Merc (very similar weight/size to the defender) and after 5 years and 40,000km (as my only tyres) the same set will be going onto my sierra when I sort out the axles.
Just my 2C worth.

35.2" Tall according to Interco, but they are a good .75" taller than a 35" 'pede.

That's great. Our experience with simex is the opposite though. Obvously, there are lots of variations that will alter performance.
PS, at 2PSI ljxteem used to loose the INNER bead on his bolted beadlocked swampers. I think you were very lucky - no tyre is designed to stay on the rim at that pressure.
Michelin XZL's were engineered to run on normal rims at as low as 11psi provided speed is kept below 60 kph. I have never seen any other data indicating any claim by a manufacturer for low pressure performance.

I cannot think of an application where 2psi is appropriate, needed, sensible, desirable or warranted.... That's stoopid!

Oh well, it's your loss.
IMHO It's only stupid to not keep dropping the pressure until you get the best out of your tyres.
This is not a boast, only a statement of fact. Many people have no idea how low they can run their tyres.
Spent all day driving around the wombat a couple of weeks ago in a sierra with 3.5 in the rear and 5 in the front. Tyres were working OK but could have gone lower for sure. They were bagging but didn't really sit into their sidewall. I reckon 2 in the rear and 4 in the front will be apples for that car considering we were still doing fast dirt at reasonable speed at 5 and 3.5 with reasonable directional control.
I wouldn't agree with 2PSI in the front, but in the application ljxtreem used to run, 2PSI in the rear was sweet. He did used to loose the inner bead occasionally in the front at this pressure so tended to run a bit higher in the front to maintain directional control and hold beads.
Bear in mind, we are running Q78 and 36" swampers, with beadlocks on sierras in difficult terrain, but I have run sierras at 4.5f/2.5r even with 31" retread radials.
I ran my beadlocked Q78's as low as 5psi in my 2500kg merc and they were still getting more effective (towing a broken vitara up a steep /slippery track- made all the difference) it stands to reason that the same tyre can go lower in a 1000kg car.

tufftruck few yrs back, Zig in the G60 was running 1psi all round.

wow, Can't imagine how stoopid he must have been.... maybe twice as stupid as ljxtreem running 2 psi? or five times as stupid as me running 5psi?
Seriously though, Zig was running 38SX's from memory and these are quite stiff.
I'm not saying you can't go too low for the conditions, or that even on the same obstacle sometimes the low pressure can be a hinderance and help all at once (especially with side angles) but to rule out low pressure is just dumb.
My Gwagen has quite a high COG in the rear, and at very low pressure the car felt like it lost a lot of lateral stability. It all depended on the obstacle.

I ran 34x10.5x15 trekkers on my Defender and thought they were a great tyre but i dont think u would want anything wider on a 110..
I now run 34x10.5x16 LTB Swampers on the same truck and love them and IMHO are a better tyre on all surfaces except maybe slick clay...
Price wise i have seen LTB's for under 300 and think the simex is around the 350.
