What does it mean when you start to reverse up a slight incline and letting the clutch out and it shudders like hell. It's a 2005 gu ute . It is under warranty but thought i might try go in with a bit of knowledge before they just blame me .

2 possibilities
1) you have broken engine mounts
2) your clutch is just about had the dick

uni's on the talilshaft could be knackered.
Had a car with that problem and it shuddered at low speed when going up (forward) up an incline more so when it had a load.

the lower arms have been replaced with superior arms might check those upper arms though. If Nissan tell me it's the clutch what is best without going too extreme if i just want to upgrade it

I find the gearing in my GU to be hideous in reverse, you can nearly break the sound barrier in reverse... fuckin woeful for backin trailers... low 4 is only option.

my GU did it in both directions. It was caused by having mud getting into the bell housing and drying out the input shaft. A simple pulling back of the clutch fork boot and spraying wd40 or the like on the input shaft (being sure not to get it on the clutch plate) is a quick fix and should drive like new again, worked on mine and it shuddered really bad!!!

I had the same thing last winter. Now that it has gotten warm here again, the shudder has disappeared. If its not broke, then don't fix it.

just thought i would let anyone interested know the reason it shutters is the clutch gets worn in the forward direction so when reversing under tension(reversing trailers up hill) the clutch plate is uneven in reverse therefore it grips uneven and shutters (ACCORDING TO NISSAN). Still a pain in the arse but what can you do they say they won't fix it because it is quite normall.

My gq did it and it had a broken engine mount

mate I think Nissan is talking crap as your crankshaft only rotates in the one direction and it is your gear box that changes the direction of your tailshaft to give you reverse, so your problem has nothing to do with clutch changing directions as it only goes in the same direction as the crankshaft.
persue your problem with another nissan dealer and dont let nissan bullshit its way out of fixing your problem.
cheers

Thanks mate i do appreciate the info as i am obviously not that mechanicaly minded. I had no idea.I am going to ring them tomorrow with that in mind after i ring another dealer to get there opinion.nothin worse than warranty issues as no doubt they don't want to fix anything
