If doing this would be good to have the WMS-WMS measurements also. SO then people know what width axle is going to come close. Also may also pay to mention what the std diff location is for that axle ie GQ front right drop, GQ rear center etc.

HF35 - H190 axle found in weenie 2wd Hardbodies.
HF37 - H190 axle found in weenie 2wd Frontiers
CA41 - Found on 720's - This is a C200/R180 combo with 4.11 gearing. Some 720's have the smaller H190 rear end that's identified by not having a removable rear diff cover. R180 front ends in 720's are different than the Hardbody and Frontier versions, as the diff is nearly centered. 720's use unequal length halfshafts and are not interchangeable. All 1986.5+ halfshafts are interchangeable left to right.
CA43 - found on 720's and Hardbodies. C200 rear / R180 front, 4.375:1 gearing
CA46 - found on Hardbodies and 4 banger Frontiers - C200 rear / R180 front, 4.625:1 gears
CA45 - found in 2003+ Frontier 4x4's. This is a C200/R180 combination with a new gear ratio - 4.5something:1 The C200 was upgraded to 31 splines on this model from the previous 29 spline unit.
HG43 - Found on Pathfinders, V6 Hardbodies, and a few '99 Frontiers - H233B rear / R200 front, 4.375:1 gearing. On the 2000+ 33 spline axles, the HG43 has a 4.363 ratio, however this is not a common axle code on the later models.
HG46 - found on auto equipped pathfinders, 96-97 hardody 4 bangers, many Xterras and Frontiers. This one has some variation. Pre-2000 versions are the H233B axle with 4.625:1 gearing (31 spline axles). 2000+ is the H233B axle with 4.636:1 gearing (33 spline axles). Typically comes with an R200 front axle, with the exception being in the '96-97 Hardbody pickups - those had an H233B / R180 combination. Axle shafts in the H233B were 31 spline up to about 2000, where they switched to 33 spline shafts. All Xterras and R50 Pathfinders received the 33 spline axles. In Frontiers, it can be a crapshoot if you have a '99-'00 model, though it is believed that the switchover was at or near 2/00 production date.
HG49 - found in mid year 2001+ Frontiers and Xterras. H233B / R200 combo with 4.90:1 gears.
Locker Selection:
ARB lockers are available for the older 30 spline C200's and all H233b's. They're also avaialble for the R200 front, however no traction device is out there for the R180.
Calmini LSD's will work in an R200 front. (A Calmini LSD is a slightly modified '87-89 Turbo 300ZX LSD)
Lockrights will only work in the older 31 spline H233B.
Detroit used to make a locker for the older 31 spline H233B, but those are getting scarce.
Up to 4.875:1 gearing is available for C200's and R180's. Up to 5.143 gearing can be had for H233B's and R200's. AC and SLR are the two companies offering gears, or you may be able to get them through Nismo.
Let's say you don't have the doorjamb sticker.
H190 - small 3rd member type axle found in 2wd's only (excluding Desert Runners, Xterras, pathfinders)
C200 - removable rear diff cover, 8 bolts. Found in all Nissans (yes, even a few early 2wd Pathfinders)
H233B - large 3rd member type axle found in most V6 and a few 4 banger 4x4's, Desert Runners, and 2wd Pathy's and 2wd Xterra V6's.
Other notes:
The H233B 3rd member changed from 9 bolts to 11 studs to hold it to the housing beginning with the 1990 models. Somewhere along this time (maybe around 6/89, the bolts holding the ring gear to the carrier changed from 10mm to 12mm, making a difference in replacement gear sets.
What do the numbers mean?
The number in the axle model indicates the size of the ring gear in mm.
R180 - 180mm ring gear
H190 - 190mm ring gear
C200 / R200 - 200mm ring gear
H233B - 233mm ring gear (yes, that's about 9.25"!)
How do I figure out my gear ratio?
Put a jack under the diff and get both wheels under the ground. Draw a chalk line on the tires where they would contact the ground. Rotate BOTH tires by hand at the same speed one exact revolution while counting revolutions of he driveshaft. Just under 4 1/2 turns will indicate the 4.375:1 gears. Just a bit over 4 1/2 turns would indicate 4.625:1 or 4.636:1 gearing. If you have a late model, just a tick under 5 turns of the DS would indicate 4.90 gears.
LSD or open?
If you lost the sticker, get that jack back under the diff. Turn a wheel with the truck in neutral. If the other wheel spins in the opposite direction, you have an open diff. If it spins in the same direction, you likely have some sort of traction device - probably an LSD.
AND MORE STUFF (need to edit this later)

2001 (All) Any 4.363
As said in earlier posts...these are ALL live axles, so unless you really want to "keep it all nissan" Might as well use a Ford 9".
I believe when people refer to using the Hardbody diff they're referring to the R200 FRONT DIFF (IFS) used in 4x4 hardbodies. (and frontiers, etc.)
The H190 has been used forever, pretty much on every Live Axle nissan made with the exceptions being the V-6 models and later 4x4 models. H190 looks like a mini 9" ford diff.
Models I've seen with the H190 include: (bolt patterns are 4x4.5, 5x5.5, 6x6)
'68-'72 datsun 510 wagon(leaf spring 4-lug) I believe these were 29spline, all other H190's are 31 spline gear ratio was 3.90
66-late 80's in civilian dress- Nissan cedric sedan(non US market)(coil spring 5-lug) Cedric wagons had the H190 leaf spring 5-lug H190 gear ratio 3.70
66-present- Nissan Cedric taxicabs/police cars (non US) (coil spring 5-lug)
S10, S11, most S12 200sx vehicles (only V-6 and turbo models had the R200, all other models didn't have IRS standard till the S13) (coil spring 4-lug) 3.90
Nissan pickup 521, 620 models 59-79 all models leaf spring 6-lug 3.90-4.30 depending on year and intended uses (some were camper specials)
Nissan 720 pickup 80-86 2wd regular cab/king cab all transmissions leaf spring 6-lug 3.42-3.90 depending on tranny and cab
Nissan stanza 83-84 4wd coil spring 4-lug probably 4.11
Nissan 1200 (datsun 210) wagon and ute (australia) leaf spring 29 spline 4-lug
these might have been as low as 4.66
There probably were plenty others....
Models sold with the C200 differential all 6x6 bolt pattern 29-33 spline
C200 looks like a GM 10-bolt (it even has a 10-bolt rear cover)
Nissan Patrol FRONT axle (rear axle was either C215 or H233) I don't know ratios, sorry All C200's are leaf spring axles
Nissan 720 Pickup 80-86 4x4 REAR axle (front axle was an R180) 4.11 ratio
Nissan 720 Pickup 80-86 2wd HEAVY DUTY model (non-duallie) 4.11 ratio
Nissan D21 pickup 86.5-97 2wd automatic 4.30 ratio
Nissan D21 pickup 4cyl long bed 4.11 ratio
Again, probably many others that I don't know about...
Models sold with the C215 diff (same as C200 but ring gear is 8-1/2 or so)
Early nissan patrol REAR axles (I've not read much about this rear)
Models sold with the H233B differential either 5x4.5 or 6x6 bolt pattern
Looks like a ford 9" being it has a 9-1/4" ring gear! 31-37 spline depending on year and application...
Nissan 720 pickup 80-86 DUALLIE CAB/CHASSIS model 2wd I believe 4.65 ratio
Nissan D21 pickup 86.5-94? Duallie cab and chassis 2wd 4.65:1?
Nissan D21 pickup 86.5-95 V-6 2wd 3.90
Nissan D21 pickup 86.5-95 heavy duty model V-6 2wd LSD 4.11 (LSD optional)95 was the last year for the V-6, duallies, and heavy duty models until it came out on the D22 (frontier) in 1999
Nissan D21 pickup 86.5-97 4x4 4cyl rear axle Non LSD 4.69:1 (front axle is an R200)
Nissan D21 pickup 86.5-95 4x4 V-6 Rear Axle LSD 4.11-4.69:1 (depending on tire size) Front diff was an R200
Nissan Pathfinder V-6 all years 2 and 4wd same as pickups but these are COIL SPRING with DISC BRAKES!
Nissan Van (the one that was recalled) Rear axle 4.11 H233B 5x4.5 bolt pattern (or possibly 5x5 I've not seen many of these even in junkyards, nissan recalled these and crushed them)
Nissan D22 (frontier) 4x4 rear axle 4cyl 4.69 or so non LSD
Nissan D22 4x4 V-6 rear axle same but with LSD optional
Again, there are many others that I've probably not mentioned.
Also keep in mind these diffs are not manufactured by "Nissan" but by Fuji heavy industries, of which nissan is partial owner. This is why you can find R160's in scooby doos (and the R180's and R200's in later models) as scooby doo is owned by Fuji heavy industries.
This means that most all Jap live axle vehicles (other than toyota) probably have very similar rear ends. (kind of like US vehicles that use Borg-warner and Dana axles, except for the General)
There were bigger ones out there too, but good luck finding them.
H260 and up...used in Nissan's medium and heavy vehicles.
I think the only reason Nissan went with the dana44's in the Titan was because possibly it would have cost more to ship the H260's and H233's across the ocean, also possibly because of the 44's aftermarket, not because of any strength issues (as all who abuse R200's well know)
Shoot forgot some of the datsuns with H190's, including the 710 sedan and wagon (coil spring), the 810 wagon (leaf spring), etc.
Pretty neat that nissan would provide a 4-cyl. less then 100whp car with a 7.5" ring gear diff....
These things are heavy, too.
I put a 720 rear in the 510 wagon I used to own (it made it slow, the ratio was 3.42, stock was 3.90)
It was at least 29 spline, was 55" wide and had 12x2" drum brakes on the back.
I can't imagine what the H233b weighs.

All the HG?? or CA?? refer to the diff ratio ie in GQ's there is HG39= 3.9:1, HG41=4.1:1, HG43=4.3:1 and HG46=4.6:1.

Terrano II uses the R180 front and H233 rear except for 2002+ ZD30 models which use a C200 rear with 31 splines.
Early MK Patrols ('82-'83) use the C200 rear with 47% LSD.
Spanish made MQ's (260 models) use C200 front and H233 rear on leafs.
Some Serena and Vanette vans use the H233 rear with 5-lug pattern.
Subaru uses the R180 rear, a Quaife LSD can be had for those.

Not all GUs have the H260 rears .. some have the h233's and i cannot for the life of me figure out which got what and why ... I have seen ZD30's, 4.2's 4.5's and 4.8s with both 233's and 260's ...
Anyone know how it was decided .. or just what was in the parts bin at the time ..

In Europe only GU with 5-sp. have 260 rears. Auto's have the 233

Leaf GQ CVs are the same as Coil GQ CVs.
So is the short side axle.
The long side is a coily is 4" longer than the long side of a leafy.

ok thansk for that.
New question.
Will i be able to get a set of coily axles' (aftermarket) in to a gq leaf housing (trimming both diff and cv ends of spline) and still have enough spline?

They will most likly be a fair bit different. As H233 come in high and low pinion. Also gear rotation may be an issue. I do know people have put H233 LSDs in the front so it may be possible though.
But if there anything like the 5.19 gears the Icelandic guys get. Then they probably want last long in aust on high traction surfaces. Cheezy had them and was having issues with the pinion dying.

Won't fit.
Different spline count (31 splines in Terrano and 29 in MK).

il check my spare diff what the spline count is. cuz i know the axle sline is normally is larger than the birfield sline. will let you know after the holidays.

I can't find any one who has a set of GQ leaf axles that i can measure.
That's all I need really is the length of the axles, end to end and length of the spline both ends.....
I've been told that the short side's are the same but I need to double check so any info is a help.
If any one can help please PM me!

Hi, I have a US 2001 Nissan frontier desert runner ( 2wd on a 4 wd chassis) , has a HG 46. I want to put the ring and pinion from a HG 39 in. I am assuming it will bolt in. Nissan only lists ring and pinions by vehicle model no. What model does this come in in the US?
