Gauges and Gauge Pods

I am looking for a way to mount an EGT gauge in the 100 series that is easily visible. The best I can come up with is a pod on the A pillar.

Has anyone seen a pod that would suit this application, or have any alternate mounting ideas?

Thermoguard does an LED one, but putting it somewhere visible and non obtusive is difficult.

Thanx
Paul

Considered a dash pod?

I do believe A Pillar gauge pods were illegal in QLD, few of the guys on the Surf forum were picked up for them.

Speculative information there... in short:
- can disrupts drivers field of view accross bonnet.
- backlights can distract other drivers.
- driver has to look 'down' to see the guage.

Apparently in Vic, no such dramas. Mr RN sir? off the record

so can steering wheel, dirt on screen, a fly going past etc.
- backlights can distract other drivers.
I regularly drive along looking deliberately for other drivers pillar pods

What about speedo, and fuel gauges etc, you have to look 'down' to see them...

I think the baconer didnt like the bloke. I'd challenge them. then again, they are all 100% critical deadly situations eh

Don't worry about Bogged, he just feels that his views/opinions are 'VERY IMPORTANT' & all should listen to what he has to say  :finger:

Hey Brucey, did you bother to check whether or not your bling pillar pod is legal in your state as I know of a guy that had a canary put on his & the pillar pod was on the list of defects :?

if by the slim chance you get done for a pillar guage, tell the cop to have a look at the next taxi that drives past.....

Just because ol Habib has something similar in his taxi , doesn't mean it's not against the law :?.

I think if ya did tell the law how to do his job, he might find a few more things to ping ya on while he's there though I agree that you'd be pretty hard done by if you were pinged for the pod

na dude, wasnt shootin the messenger ... was just in disbelief that a copper would book someone for something as pathetic as that!

unbelieveable...

With some of the shitboxes driving around (theres a brown galant wagon 70's model at work with chain holding the passenger side door shut, no mirrros, 1 tail light completely missing and more.... ), they pick on somethin like this...

No worries bogged. Not knowing the full story... it probably just 1 on a list of things that they found to be in disagreement with.

They are only illegal if they obstruct your view from the drivers seat. I had mine down at the base of the A pillar. A pig challenged my once on it, made him sit in the car and then try and tell me they obstructed the view. They just need to be carefully placed to avoid the fuzz getting the rocks off by defecting you.

A mate and I made this for the water temp gauge in my 4Runner......Glued PVC pipe to the a pillar plastic to sit the guage how we wanted it, then bogged it all up and sanded back smooth. Then finally he wrapped it in matching vinyal to the rest of the interior. Makes it look factory!

That's very nicely done...

If I only wanted to add one gauge in my GQ, I would consider ripping out the original clock and putting a gauge there. There'd be room for a single 52mm gauge I think.

I do not know whether this idea has any merit for a 100 series or any other vehicle, but there are plenty of places to fit an aftermarket clock (usually comes with a stereo anyway) so it is a thought.

Actually assuming this is a typical 100 interior:

... what about cutting into the plastic panel that holds the hazard light switch etc, repositioning those three switches a bit closer together, and making room for the gauge? Too fiddly?

Found an interesting solution the other day.

Fits into a single DIN stereo hole and holds 3 52mm gauges.

Swap out that ridiculous toyota double DIN thing and you're sorted.

That's a pretty good idea.

The ADR's dictate where what goes etc so I would have to check those...but if the guages dont distract the driver, or block forward vision it maybe ok...not sure about night time when you would have a bright guage above dash height in your line of sight..again maybe an ADR issue.

Talking of blocking of forward vision...we have the new VE SS's at work.

but one thing, the A pillar is very thick and cars and solo's can get 'lost' behind the A pillar quite easily. The A pillar on these have airbags installed so I guess that is why they are so substantial. ( ah, bring back the HQ and XA 'A' pillars)

I have these, has not been an issue ........ yet
Picked it up from a ricer shop in fibreglass for $30 (without the guages), supposed to be for a Skyline GTR.

Are you diesel?
I'm wondering if those throttled toyota diesels ever pull a vacuum on the boost gauge.
