Hi Guys,
here are some picis of my disco. Some of you may have seen them on other forums.

Now running 35 Silverstones

I have a IBM T20 for GPS stuff

Some of the stuff I cut off along the way

This is the LEs Richmond 2.5" lift kit before it disappears under the car

The new tyres work well
Image
and I like the new rims :) Image

LArger intercooler and injector pump tweaks produce this:

The exhaust gas temp probe

Another pici in the bush

I made a custom rear bar

The exhaust was redone to suit the body lift and rear bar.

I've also made rear drawers and fridge slider.
Currently working on HF aerial mount on spare wheel carrier. Relocating audio power amp front under passenger seat to up near the back roof. I put a second fuse box in the engine bay to properly fuse all the electrics - fridge, light bar, power amp, etc etc.
Just bought a set of sill tanks so I need to fit those - easier said than done since they are out of a Rangie and the disco has some extra metalwork that means the tanks need to be 'adjusted'.

there you go.

Deppelers Creek Track in the Otways. I'm a bit reluctant to say since a few people on another forum took quite an offence. Let me just say it was all perfectly completely legal.
We had a great time.
I felt particularly chuffed at being able to pull a toyota thru the soup.

Dont worry mate there is plenty of those winging bleeding hearts everywhere that want to say that ( YOU CANT DO THAT THAT MUST BE ILEGAL IT LOOKS TO MUCH LIKE FUN  ) but ah well if ya got it use it i reckon ;) . As long as it is done on non closed tracks its perfectly legal and theres not a god dam thing they can do.Except winge
Anyway tough lookin truck looks like you use it as it is intended  top job if ya dont mind can ya PM me of any other of the tracks around the area as we are always lookin for tougher tracks to add to the vid collection.

Looks good.

How are the axles/diffs holding up?

Thanks for all the positive feedback. It sure has taken a while to get it all done.
I had to put maxidrive axles in about 6 months ago - the standard ones just couldn't cope. I was scrabbling up a very rocky track in Toolangi when I broke one. The drive flange just sheared off the end of the axle - amazing. I couldn't have cut it better myself.
I have a front locker but use it ONLY IN EMERGNCY because I'm scared of blowing a CV. I have ABS so I'm not sure what the best upgrade is for the front axle/cv stuff (any suggestions?).

I currently have a 50mm OME suspension lift. It has done 250000km so it's bloody tough. If I change I am considering the 'Long Travel' kit with Bilsteins from Les Richmond. There's nothing like good articulation.

As far as other tracks go - It's hard to say. I havn't done a lot of difficult ones. Deppelers is very good because it's flat. You can't slide anywhere dangerous. We also did the southern 'half' which is the easiest part. The Norhtern half has some deep porridgy holes that you just have to winch thru. One guy tried going around and nearly rolled it over sideways into the soup. In summer it's easier.

I have to fix my rear shock bush - the top bush popped out last weekend. What a :bad-words: job that is. I spent an hour trying to squash the bloody rubber thing thru the top eye :bad-words: :bad-words: :bad-words: I then thought I'd cut it in half because the bolt will squash it all back together but the bolt isn't long enough to start the nut on the thread :bad-words: :bad-words: :bad-words: . Everything is at wierd anngles so it's hard to clamp anything to anything. (sigh) I'll just keep trying or buy some urethane ones.

Anyway thanks again for the comments.

I still need to make a rear bar similar to yours though.

It has a LRA 2.5" body lift, LRA longtravel sus kit with Bilsteins, Front and Rear air lockers, 35" creepy's, 4.11 diffs, LRA flares, etc.

rear bar, winch, exhaust and sliders on the way.

PM me some more pics of your rear bar if you,ve got some,

Cheers

Front CVs can be replaced with Nissan GQ units - Jac Mac in Melbourne do the conversion which requires new axles to suit as well as modding the spindles to replace the needle roller bearing with a bronxe bush to suit.

The CV is aqctually no bigger, but the weak point, the input spline/axle is made bigger, thereby reducing the chances of axles breakage at that point, and with Jac Mac axles, the whole set up is stonger than OME.

Of course, the next weak point is the CWP, but this can be pegged without too much trouble, eg., when you put the 4.11'in:)

PS the Bilstein shocks are good, have good length but are quite soft, much softer than Dobinsons, so expect more bottoming out and body roll compared to Dobs units.

PPS wity all these mods, your can see why Nisaan or earlier model Yota whole axle unit conversions are often considered. I would not do it cause you lose clearance and should/need to get it engineered, but I can see the logic of it....

Anyone know who can do diff pegging in NSW?

And the spindle resize to suit the Jac Mac GU CV conversion?

Also have heard a bit about the Les Richmond springs and Bilsteins long travel kit. How much $?

You could always mail the spindles to Jac Mac - which is what we did, from Tassie, cost 30 dollars from memory. Diff pegging should not be a problem for any competent auto engineering shop - have a look at Ashcroft's UK web site for some clues as to how it is done.

Thanks for all the good info reddo, sounds like it might be a worthwhile exercise.

Cant remember the price of the longtravel kit off the top of my head, but i think you needed to have a 2" body lift to be able to run it. Check the LRA website for all the prices of the body lift and suspension kits.

Cheers
